I just finished a fascinating piece of work for a client who wanted to launch an IT Asset Management program to get a better handle on what hardware and software technology the business owned; where it was; and what it was being used for.
It owns software that should, in theory, be able to keep track of its technology configuration, but the products that do this are complex and hard to get installed and running smoothly—and somehow the installation process had never been a priority for IT operations.
