This bibliography is considered in its broadest sense and covers references of research in humanities and social sciences as well as computer technology.
The bibliography that follows is fairly full, but it is selective, in the belief that scholars will generally find it more useful to be directed to the more important and/or more recent contributions, in the first instance.

It can be divided into enumerative or systematic bibliography, which results in an overview of publications in a particular category, and analytical or critical bibliography, which studies the production of books.
Bibliographies differ from library catalogs by including all relevant publications rather than items actually found in a particular library.
Descriptive bibliography is the close examination of a book as a physical object, recording its size, format, binding, and so on, while historical bibliography takes a broader view of printing and publishing.

The following topics are on the 'A'-list for 2006- 2007 and some of them will be transferred to the 'B'-list for the following year (if this course is given again), when most of this year's 'B'-list topics will, conversely, become 'A'-list topics.
Each year a different set of 10 topics, 5 topics for each of the two terms, is chosen from the Master List of essay topics, though with some occasional duplications, of the most important topics.
