Caribbean Music: Calypso and Found Percussion
Calypso is a style of music that developed in the West Indies, the islands of the Caribbean.
There is a short, introductory history of Calypso music, a song to learn (or you may prefer to choose a different calypso-style song), percussion rhythms to learn, a "found percussion" activity, and a creative writing activity.
You may want to have calypso music to play in the background as they are working on their instruments.

Calypsonian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Calypsonian is a musician, usually from Trinidad, who has studied calypso and memorised its traditional tunes and stanzas.
A traditional calypso form, War, would close calypso shows with the calypsonians taking turns to improvise verses lauding themselves and disparaging the others.
The above traits distinguish a calypsonian from a calypso singer, such as Harry Belafonte, who interprets calypsoes but does not compose them.

By the end, when we all tiring, I felt that there was a tendency to respond to cues by making a noise, any noise, just to fulfil our obligations to the score on a minimal level, to bring it to a close.

Rising from the ashes of creativity, drive, experience, success and resistance, Skitzo Calypso continues to evolve as the mid-Atlantic independent rock n’ roll band that refuses to give up or compromise its vision, for the sake of quick album sales, instant success, popularity or social acceptance.
In the commercially-sustained candy-coated rock n’ roll landscape of the 21st Century, dominated by college pop/rock and cookie-cutter Picassos, it is important for talented musicians to take the risk and stand up for a higher standard of artistry, in an effort to quash the bumble-gum music plaguing the pop airwaves [over the past decade].
