American Livestock Breeds Conservancy: Holland Chicken   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Dual-purpose chicken breeds tend to lay brown eggs and white egg-laying breeds available at the time were light-weight and not well fleshed; this prompted Rutgers Breeding Farms to set about producing a dual-purpose breed that would lay white eggs – resulting in the Holland.
You may wonder why an American breed of chicken is called “Holland.” The answer lies in the ancestry of the breed.
The breed is fairly cold tolerant, though during periods of extreme cold the males may suffer some frostbite to their single combs.

Chicken tractors have helped thousands of gardeners have better gardens and taken chickens out of factory farms and put them in the garden where they are your personal helpers.
I think the most serious flaw in "Chicken Tractor" is that the author barely mentions how to set up for laying hens and concentrates mainly on raising broilers and fryers; yet he always refers to slaughtering the chickens as "processing", a euphemism that is confusing at best.
The list of chicken breeds is quite long, but would have benefitted by adding more information about each variety.
