In the course of church union discussions a compendious draft basis of union was prepared which involved the United Church agreeing to accept episcopacy and arrangements being contemplated for the recognition of United Church ordinations.
Stanley Knowles, a United Church minister, was a Manitoba CCF-NDP parliamentarian from 1942-1984 with a hiatus from 1958-62.
Certain United Church delegates presented evidence in favour of same-sex marriage to the House of Commons Justice Committee during its cross-country hearings in 2003 and welcomed court decisions that legalized same-sex marriage in certain provinces.

The United Church of Christ was a minority of one 30 years ago when the Rev. William R. Johnson became the first openly gay man ordained to Christian ministry.
Practices are not consistent from church to church, but in all of them church leaders have either ordained openly homosexual candidates for ministry or signaled their willingness to do so.
The General Synod of the Church of Norway, voted in 1997 to oppose the ordination of homosexuals living with a partner, but four of the eleven Norwegian bishops have declared that this policy is not binding in their dioceses.

The Church Fathers or Fathers of the Church are the early and influential theologians and writers in the Christian church, particularly those of the first five centuries of Christian history.

As the Church studies the document, the Inter-Church Inter-Faith Committee of the General Council Office invites comment on the following draft statement, proposed for consideration and adoption as a statement to be issued by the 38th General Council of The United Church of Canada.
The seven churches that are the recipients of this document suffered terrible persecution by the Roman authorities.

Although there are no indications in the 39 Articles that prohibit a belief in an old earth, in visiting their website you get a distinct feeling that they are very conservative.
If an old earth believer is interested in one of these churches, it would be a good idea to talk to the bishop/minister of the church.

The United Church of Canada is free to divest itself of any monies it may have invested in companies that do business with Israel.
Given that Rev. Lawrence Pushee is the co-chair of the Toronto Conference of the United Church as regards the Church’s divestment initiative, one can assume that he speaks for the United Church on these matters, unless of course the Moderator completely disassociates himself and the Church from Reverend Pushee’s remarks.
