In the center of the state lies the Central Valley, a huge, fertile valley bounded by the coastal mountain ranges in the west, the granite Sierra Nevada to the east, the volcanic Cascade Range in the north and the Tehachapi Mountains in the south.
The state of California has 478 cities, the majority of which are within one of the large metropolitan areas.
The state had 9,400,000 foreign-born residents (26.5% of the population), of which an estimated 2,209,000 were illegal aliens (illegal aliens accounted for nearly one-fourth of the foreign-born population and 6.2% of the total state population).

On the reverse is a list of Arizona cities and towns showing their populations in 1900, 1950, and 2000---which not only shows the growth of most of them, but the decline of others (the "ghost" towns).
On the reverse side is a travel guide with separate charts listing the facilities and activities of the parks, monuments, and recreation areas for each major state shown: Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, inlcuding a few places not actually on the Plateau.

Eight of the nation’s top 10 fastest growing large cities (100,000 or more population) since Census 2000 lie in the Western states of Arizona, Nevada and California, according to new U.S. Census Bureau population estimates for July 1, 2003.
Gilbert, Ariz., a suburban community, south of Phoenix, of 145,250 people, led the list with a growth rate of 32 percent in the 39-month period between April 1, 2000, and July 1, 2003.
Los Angeles, the second most populous city at 3.8 million, had the largest population increase, adding 125,209 people since Census 2000.

In New Mexico the urban population of Mexican Americans is primarily in A1buquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe; in Arizona the urban Mexican-American population is centered in Phoenix and Tucson, and in Colorado the urban population is centered in Denver and Pueblo.
There are substantial numbers of Mexican Americans in some cities of Minnesota, Washington, Iowa, and in Washington, D.C. As to states, the majority of the population is in the five southwestern states with over 80 percent of those in the states of California and Texas.
Although we do have some indication as to the number of Mexican Americans in the Southwest in 1950 and 1960, we have no indication of the population count for the rest of the United States.

For example in January of 1999, there were no camps in Fillmore California, now there are two ( March 1999.) They seem to ring around population centers for the most part, with many short term 'holding facilities' buried in the hills and dales around the inner cities.
The holding camps are scattered everywhere, in all major cities, and our intelligence sources confirm that these are going to be used as some sort of interim roundup places where those gathered can be placed until they can be shipped off to somewhere else.

The land was settled by Confederates in Arizona Territory (CSA) and Union Mormons in the State of Deseret.
The Southwest region of the United States is drier in weather than the adjoining Southern United States and U.S. West; the population is less dense and, with moderate Mexican and American Indian components, more ethnically varied than neighboring areas.
Texas is a part of the Southern United States, as it shared that region's view of States Rights, taxes and tariffs, and slavery; and membership in the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War.
