 Armenia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Republic of Armenia, or Armenia (Armenian: Հայաստան, Hayastan, Հայք, Hayq), is a landlocked country in the southern Caucasus, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east and Iran (Persia) and the Nakhichevan exclave of Azerbaijan to the south.
Armenia is a landlocked country, lacking a seacoast or a port.
Armenia was the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion, in AD Over 95% of Armenian Christians belong to the Armenian Apostolic Church, a form of Oriental (Non-Chalcedonian) Orthodoxy, which is a very ritualistic, conservative church, roughly comparable to the Coptic and Syrian churches.

The title "King of Armenia" passed to the kings of Cyprus, thence to the Venetians, and was later claimed by the house of Savoy.

In 1827 it was taken by Russia and formally ceded by the Ottomans in 1828.
After the 1917 Russian revolution it enjoyed three years as the capital of independent Armenia, and in 1920 became the capital of the newly formed Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, a territory of the Soviet Union.
With the collapse of the Soviet Union, Yerevan became the capital of the independent Republic of Armenia in 1991.

As it stands now, the cities list is boggled up.
With about 50 new IMCs aiming to form (see contacts list), perhaps now is good time to reconsider the idea of a cities database that generates the cities list (with continent categories) and perhaps contacts page as well and entering updates on newly approved and requested IMCs there.

 Armenian Tourist Attractions: Mountain Climbing
     We in Armenia certainly had our "crazies."  There were climbing clubs in the cities of Yerevan, Abovian, Leninakan, Kirovakan, Dilijan, Sevan, Kamo, Yeghegnadzor, Kaphan, Ashtarak, and more.  All of the members of those clubs had one feeling in common:  love of the mountains.
First of all, the subsidies provided to the sports world by the USSR suddenly ceased.  Second, all travel declined due to the fighting and suffering that accompanied the unstable political situation.  Third, many people lost their jobs and incomes.
Andrey Chesnokov has climbed most of the mountains in Armenia.  He started climbing at the climbing club of Yerevan State Polytechnic Institute while studying engineering.  Today all engineering work is scarce in an economy functioning at about 25% of its former operations.  To inquire about guiding in Armenia, contact:
