In South Korea, education is highly regarded and very competitive, similar to many East Asian countries like Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, and is typical of education in Asia.
As the university entrance examination is such an important factor in education, many parents spend a significant portion of their income to send their children to these institutes in order to prepare them for the exam.
Korea retains many aspects of the Joseon Dynasty and Japanese education systems, the most influential of which is probably the use of entrance examinations to determine eligibility to attend the highest-level universities.

Universities everywhere prepare engineers, doctors, economists, business managers, and other professionals needed to fulfil the stringent demands of a modern society.
The second set relates to the broader function of universities - to create thinking minds, pursue research in subjects that are important but are not of immediate economic utility, to create and organize discourses on social and political issues, and to raise the cultural and aesthetic level of society.
Having such university entrance examinations would be important for another reason as well - they would set the goal posts for colleges and high schools all over Pakistan.

The University of Nevada-Las Vegas, the Wharton School of Business, and the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, have all reported theft incidents.  And on Wednesday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that hackers may have stolen 7,000 identities from the University of California at San Francisco.
He says schools have a unique challenge in the information security age.  The public, academic side of the university needs to maintain open standards and a spirit of free information sharing; but the corporate side of the university needs to guard critical financial information the way any financial institution would.
That was the case in the University of Mississippi incident.
