The planting of new and the conquest of foreign colonies, the incorporation of new and the strengthening of old trading companies, the passage of the acts of trade, and the attendant wars with the Dutch are the notable events which bear witness to the emergence of England as an imperial power.
Indeed it was this situation that led the colonies to appoint their own agents, at first temporary and in time permanent, to act as vehicles of sound information and advice on matters involving the interests or the privileges of the particular colony.
Colonial governors wrote to him in letters of a semi-public nature, seeking his advice in their perplexities, his favor to procure and hasten needed orders, or his support on behalf of their official conduct.

In pueblos where there was no governor or lieutenant (teniente) of the governor, the two alcaldes ordinarios had jurisdiction in first instance in all cases (negocios, causas, y cases), both civil and criminal, over which the governor had jurisdiction.
In the absence of the governor and his tenientes (lieutenants) from office and until such time as the office could be filled by the viceroy, the alcalde ordinario of the capital city of the province was to serve.
It was provided, therefore, that the governor, together with the boat owners, should elect an alcalde ordinario and four regidores or diputados (deputies) for a term of one year or till their successors should be duly elected.

Governor Wyatt, reporting the disaster, said—“Indeed all trade with these Indians must be foreborne, and without doubt we must cleere them or they us out of the country.” Matters went that way.
Early in 1662 it was ordered that the Governor should cause by proclamation a prohibition of all Marylanders, English and Indians (”which they have already done to us”) and of all other Indians to the northward of Maryland from trucking, trading, bartering or dealing with any English or Indians to the South of that place.
Governor again in 1660, Sir William Berkeley was encouraged about the state of Virginia (see his very able Discourse and View of Virginia, 1663) and still open to conviction with regard to the back country.

Inaugurated on the 8th of December 1711, it is the largest of the Cathedrals built during colonial times in the country.
Built between 1550 and 1551 by the master Francisco Suarez, under the supervision of Fray Juan de Quintanilla, it is the oldest temple built of brick and stone in Honduras and possibly in Central America that is still standing.
Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the original colonial paintings from the Cathedral, that are here on a temporary exhibit while the wait for their turn to be renovated.

Priscilla Tullis is listed in 1740 as an adult in membership of Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church.
However, she appears to have been born before 1740 because the New Jersey census for 1800 lists "Abagil" Tullis in Cumberland County and shows her be over 60 years of age.
