  Complete List of NYS Attorneys General
Between 1684 and 1777, the Colonial Attorneys General were appointed by the King of England, or the Colonial Governors on the Crown's behalf.
Until 1702 he was appointed by the governor, after which he was commissioned by the Crown.
By the Constitution the governor was required to do the appointing with the "advice and consent of the council." But in practice it subordinated the governor to the council whenever a majority of the assembly was politically opposed to him, and the annual election of the council greatly increased chances of such opposition.

The administrative process which was necessitated by the imposition of the country rate, was the preparation of the list of taxables, with the estates which they possessed at their estimated value, the correction of these lists, the issue of warrants in accordance with them, and the collection of the tax.
Then the lists should be sent to the colony treasurer, and the treasurer should issue warrants to the constables of the several towns to collect the specified sums.
In Connecticut the town lists had first to be examined and equalized by the commissioners of all the towns in the respective counties, and then they were submitted to the general court.

The Governor of Virginia is forbidden by the Constitution of the Commonwealth from serving consecutive terms (making Virginia the only U.S. state in which gubernatorial incumbents are forbidden from running for governor); however, several governors have served two non-consecutive terms (but they are forbidden from serving more than two non-consecutive terms).
In Virginia, governors and lieutenant governors are elected separately, so the two can be of different political parties and can be political rivals.

According to Adams, the substance of the Declaration is contained in the in the Declaration of Colonial Rights of the Continental Congress, and the essence of it is contained in The Rights of the Colonists, written before the first Congress met, by Samuel Adams.

 The Colonial Virginia Register
From 1652 to 1660 the Governors were elected by the House of Burgesses, though there is some reason to believe that their choice may have been influenced by the wishes of the Parliamentary authorities, or of Cromwell.
The Councillors were the Governor's advisers in executive matters, and patents, etc., are stated to be issued with their "advice and consent." They constituted the General Court -the supreme court of the Colony and also had legislative functions as members of the upper house of the Assembly, corresponding somewhat to our senate.
The colonial almanacs (which were always published late in the year before that whose date they bear-as is the case now) contain lists which have in the main been found to be very accurate, of the members of the House in existence at the time when the almanac was printed.

Sir John Harvey continued Governor till 1635, and the people being enraged at some mismanagements of his, petitioned for an Assembly to hear their complaints against him, and an Assembly was called accordingly.
The last four Governors, in this list, Bennett, Digges, Matthews and Berkeley were appointed by the assembly of Virginia, during the existence of the commonwealth of England, and not by the parliament or Cromwell, as erroneously represented by Robertson and other historians −−− See note to page 526.

In 1809 a collection of the laws of the Colony of Virginia was published at the request of Thomas Jefferson and the Virginia legislature.
WHEREAS our late sovereign lady queen Anne, of her grace and bounty, was pleased to bestow a considerable quantity of arms and ammunition, for the service of this colony, which are in danger to be imbezzled and spoilt, for want of a convenient and proper place to keep them in.

List One consisted of 145 families, for a total of 347 individuals,described as "white families and artificers." At the end of the page you will find a report taken from the Journals of the House of Commons in 1753 concerning the efficacy of the Acts.

 Ancestry of Nathaniel Hart
At the Battle of Alamance, Hart led a company of infantrymen in Governor Tryon's army; after the battle, he was highly complimented by the governor and his officers for the gallant and spirited behavior of the detachment under his command.
Because of a proclamation by the royal governors of Virginia and North Carolina that prohibited treaties or purchases of land from Indians by individuals, the Crown refused to recognize the transaction and declared it null and void.
When Governor Tryon decided in 1768 to have Herman Husband arraigned in court for his Regulator activities, Sheriff Hart served the warrant and took the accused into custody.

Bowman lists the ancestry of Gilbert and Ann Courtney Holcomb in her Volume 2 without resolving the question of Thomas' parentage in order that future researchers not duplicate others' efforts in delineating this line.
The surviving children are listed with ages as Joshua (17), Benajah (13), Nathaniel (9), Abigail (19), Deborah (5-7), but this overlooks the two eldest daughters Elizabeth and Mary who were already married, and had probably received their portions at marriage.
COMMENTS: In his list of "what children has been born in Windsor from our beginning hither" Matthew Grant credits "Thomas Holcom" with eight children [Grant 91], which is consistent with the above list of children and implies that the first two were born in Dorchester.

In 1632 the Walloon former Governor of Dutch New Nederland Peter Minuit, offered his services to Sweden, he plan to establish a Swedish colony in North America.
Between 1638 and 1656, the Swedish sent to the colony 12 separate expeditions.
The new Governor, began to build a new fort, called Fort Nya Goteborg on the island of Tinicum here he also built a Lutheran church (consecrated on 4 September 1646) and decided to move the capital of the colony from Fort Christina.

 History and Development of the Jersey Settlement, NC
The colony developed as a Proprietary System, like a corporation, and London speculators dealt in "percentages of Proprietary Shares." In 1664, the British seized New Jersey, but, to avoid the expense of Indian wars, decreed that land be purchased before settlement, buying West Jersey for wampum, trinkets, a few bolts of cloth and two kettles.
Like so many of the early British governors in the colonies, Lord Cornbury, of New York and New Jersey, was notorious for his greed and incompetence.
The new Governor supported the Proprietors, Col. Coxe was removed from Council and Assembly, and soon found the political climate so hostile that he returned to England.
