What was described as a valuable colony was given up because of the number of proprietors, disagreements and disputes among them, their inability to settle the matter of quitrents, or annual land use fees, in South Carolina, and their fear that they would lose the colony in case of invasion by Spain.
Both Governor Alexander Spotswood of Virginia and Moseley recommended to Carteret that his one-eighth part of Carolina be set up as a single district and that the northern boundary be the Virginia-North Carolina line, since that was the only boundary in the entire province that had been fixed.
Finally, in 1779, the remaining lands and other property of Henry McCulloh and Henry Eustace McCulloh, his son, were specifically confiscated by the state of North Carolina by action of the General Assembly.

The certified abstracts of votes for these officers are transmitted to the speaker of the house of delegates by the secretary of the commonwealth, and the returns are opened and the votes counted and declared in the presence of the two houses of the general assembly within one week after the beginning of the session.

 November Thanksgiving Thursday
The Colonial tradition most often discussed is that of the "First Thanksgiving" in New England celebrated by the settlers of the Plymouth Colony (commonly considered to be in Fall 1621).
In 1721, Governor Gurdon Saltonstall of the Connecticut Colony (formerly, the home colony of Governor Jonathan Belcher's mother Sarah Gilbert Belcher) issued a Thanksgiving Proclamation naming November 8 as a thanksgiving day--but that day was a Wednesday.
This resolution was written by a committee of three headed by Governor Belcher's friend, John Winthrop (1714-1779), a professor of mathematics and natural philosophy at Harvard College.

For 70 years the Governor's Palace at Williamsburg stood as the symbol of royal authority in colonial Virginia.
Begun in 1705 under an appropriation by the House of Burgesses and completed in 1720, it served as the official residence of a succession of brilliant British governors: Alexander Spotswood, Hugh Drysdale, William Gooch, Robert Dinwiddie, Francis Fauquier, Norborne Berkeley, and John Murray, the Earl of Dunmore.
In addition there were other maps, extensive inventories of three colonial governors, the Journals of the House of Burgesses, and other colonial records.
