Volume IV contains two lists of soldiers, the one labeled as a list of depreciation pay and the other simply as a list of the men who served in any unit during the war.
The latter list is believed to have been primarily of those men who served in the ranger companies.

Because no person could be elected to a Connecticut colonial government position at the spring elections unless his name was on the list of twenty candidates developed the previous fall, a special law was enacted that permitted a previously unlisted candidate for governor to be elected.
As Governor, he strove to end Connecticut's opposition to some of England's colonial policies and was instrumental in increasing the colony's involvement in military actions against the French and Indians in Queen Anne's War.
New London had provided governors for the Colony of Connecticut for 44 of the previous 67 years, and Saltonstall was buried with an impressive ceremony in the Ancient Cemetery.

Basic to any serious research in Connecticut history before 1894 are the twenty-six volumes of the transactions of the General Assembly, The Public Records of the Colony of Connecticut, J. Hammond Trumbull and Charles J. Hoadly, eds.
It contains updated lists of all state and local government officials, voting statistics for past years, population figures since 1790 for all towns, town and city data and much other information useful in studying past and present Connecticut There is a complete set dating from 1785 at the State Library.

The Supreme Court of Judicature, or Supreme Court, was the colony's highest court of common law, with both original and appellate jurisdiction.
These appeals were made to the royal governor and his council sitting as a court for the correction of errors and appeals.
Today, most of the extant records of the colonial Supreme Court of Judicature are in the custody of the New York County Clerk, who is also clerk of the modern State Supreme Court.

 Complete List of NYS Attorneys General
Between 1684 and 1777, the Colonial Attorneys General were appointed by the King of England, or the Colonial Governors on the Crown's behalf.
Until 1702 he was appointed by the governor, after which he was commissioned by the Crown.
By the Constitution the governor was required to do the appointing with the "advice and consent of the council." But in practice it subordinated the governor to the council whenever a majority of the assembly was politically opposed to him, and the annual election of the council greatly increased chances of such opposition.

After the Morant Bay rebellion of 1865, crown colony government was established and as a consequence there were no elections until 1884 when representative government was restored.
Despite the fact that for these elections at least half of the electorate was from the peasantry, such was the division and apathy among the voters that not one fl man was elected to the Legislature until 1899 when Alexander Dixon defeated J.V. Calder in the by-elections held in St. Elizabeth.
Looking at the long list of colonial governors, only two can be described as Patterson's equal for either ability or achievement ­ John Peter Grant and Hugh Foot.

A publication entitled An Abstract of the Laws of New England as They are Now Established concluded that for the best protection of the county, "First, a law [is] to be made for the training of all the men in the country fit to bear arms, unto the exercise of military discipline.
Lord Baltimore, the founder of Maryland, published a list defining the required equipage of settlers to his colony.
The costs the items are shown in the version of Baltimore's list published by Hall; ARMS amount to 10% of the budget for the total equipage.

Following the publication of the ten-volume set of The Colonial Records of North Carolina (Raleigh: various publishers, 1886-1890), edited by William L. Saunders, a whole new source of original documents was at hand for the use of the historian of the seventeenth century.
There are other general histories of the colonial period which devote a portion of their contents to Carolina.
John A. Doyle’s English Colonies in America (New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1889, 3 volumes) cites manuscript sources in England in many cases, yet in others there are references to such questionable secondary accounts as George Chalmers’ Political Annals of the Present United Colonies and Hugh Williamson’s The History of North Carolina.
