The comic strip began in 1865 in Germany with Max and Moritz, two trouble-making boys.
These web comics differed from published comic strips, in that anyone could start his or her own comic strip and publish it on the Web; there was no longer any need to for a person to meet the approval of a publisher or syndicate.
The history of comic strips also includes instances that are not comic (that is, humorous), but tell a serious ongoing story.

It's kind of refreshing to see a strip that doesn't feel the need to have an uplifting message, or feel like it needs to point out that it's mean to whack an innocent person upside the dome with a snowball.
Watterson is the only newspaper cartoonist to ever convince me that he approaches his comic strip as a work of art and not just a bunch of joke boxes.
This is one of the funniest strips in history, in part because of the ridiculously wild story, and in part because mispronunciation is hilarious.

I write the strip in sketchbooks - wherever I am during the day - much of the dialog between Big Daddy and Adelle is taken right from real life banter between my wife and myself - and then I sit in my home studio at my metal desk from Pottery Barn.
This strip has no dialogue, but Ferd'nand's wife can often be seen raising her "voice." Her husband usually deserves it though.
