The current premier of Saskatchewan is New Democrat Lorne Calvert, whose government was re-elected in the 2003 election with a slim majority -- the NDP won 30 seats in the 58-seat Legislative Assembly, while the Saskatchewan Party won the remaining 28 seats.

In 1913, the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association was established as Saskatchewan's first agricultural organization.

Congratulations to the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses for remaining vigilant and proactive as the existing NDP government pretends to be making healthcare better by failing to consult with healthcare workers about plans to significantly alter the landscape of delivering services.
I have listed below in chronological order the most interesting and relevant NDP gov't news release pages that seem to indicate this gov't highly comfused and incompetant approach to the spending of 1.9 billion dollars per year on healthcare.
Naiyer Habib (Head of Cardiology) has responded to the RHD claims that "poor communication" on the part of the physicians was to blame for a Weyburn man having been refused a bed at the RGH prior to his death from coronary problems.

Brain Awareness Week was launched in Saskatchewan at a dinner in Saskatoon in the presence of representatives of all participating organizations, groups, and trainees.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan prepared coloring books assembled from pictures donated by agencies and disease-related groups and arranged, in collaboration with students from an elementary school, a very popular demonstration of "Jump Rope for Heart" emphasizing benefits of physical activity for the function of the brain.
In general, BAW is now known in the community and expected yearly as a high quality annual community event.

Judy Orthner, communications director for Saskatchewan Corrections and Public Safety, said it is safe for people from English Bay and Nemeiben Lake to return.
Orthner said forest fires in northern Saskatchewan remain a concern, but the danger to the province overall was rated Monday as moderate.
With concerns about courthouse security rising, the Saskatchewan government is installing metal detectors in a number of court buildings around the province.

In football he played on the line from 1972 through 1976 and twice won all-star honors within the Western Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Other significant awards presented to Bob were in 1977 when he was named athlete of the year at the University of Saskatchewan, and in 1978 when he was named the most outstanding wrestler at the Canadian Open Championships when he won national titles in both Greco-Roman as well as freestyle wrestling.

In brief, there was near-unanimous support for mandatory nutrition labelling from individual Canadians as well as the health, consumer and educational organizations that filed comments.
In addition, submission from the provincial governments of Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island, and municipal health authorities in Toronto and Ottawa-Carleton strongly favoured a mandatory nutrition labelling system (though the N.S. government preferred a voluntary system).
We hope you will agree that the overwhelming support for mandatory labelling sets a clear direction for Health Canada's regulatory reform on this important public health issue.
