 Consonant - Psychology Wiki
A consonant is a sound in spoken language that is characterized by a closure or stricture of the vocal tract sufficient to cause audible turbulence.
The word consonant comes from Latin and means "sounding with" or "sounding together", the idea being that consonants don't sound on their own, but only occur with a nearby vowel, which is the case in Latin.
Consonant letters in the English alphabet are B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Z, and usually Y: The letter Y stands for the consonant [j] in "yoke" but for the vowel [ɪ] in "myth", for example.

As far as pronunciation is concerned, the consonants in the two columns labelled "aspirate" are equivalent to the consonants to their left but with more air breathed out.
As is often the case with Kālacakra, that standard list from Buddhism is increased in the Kālacakra system by the addition of a sixth skandha, that of awareness (ye shes, jñāna).
The usual list is of space, wind, fire, water and earth, but in Kālacakra the list is often extended by the addition of an element of awareness, or the "empty element".

On the other hand, in Japanese pronunciation the average position of the tongue is quite far back in the mouth, with the body of the tongue shaped to the roof of the mouth, dorsum somewhat raised, and tip behind the lower front teeth.
Where there are similarities in consonants, vowels, clusters, or CV sequences, learners may not be as challenged as where there are dissimilarities.
The general CVCV pattern in Japanese is often transferred to the consonant cluster patterns in English, such that Japanese speakers may either insert vowels to break-up consonant clusters or add vowels after word-final consonants.

Velar consonant help – Wiki at Help.com   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Since the velar region of the roof of the mouth is relatively extensive and the movements of the dorsum are not very precise, velars easily undergo assimilation, shifting their articulation back or to the front depending on the quality of adjacent vowels.
There are also labial-velar consonants, which are doubly articulated at the velum and at the lips, such as.
This distinction disappears with the approximant, since labialization involves adding of a labial approximant articulation to a sound, and this ambiguous situation is often called labiovelar.

If we want to list consonants in a chart, there's an immediate problem: there are seven dimensions in which consonants can differ from each other, but only two dimensions in which a printed chart can arrange them.
The general approach is used in the official IPA consonant chart and in the charts in the textbook.
