Many Illinois Hospitals Do Not Offer Emergency Contraception to Sexual Assault Survivors, Study Says Ashleta Patel, director of family planning services at Stroger Hospital in Chicago, and colleagues last summer conducted telephone surveys with head nurses in the emergency departments of 156 hospitals in Illinois, asking them if their hospitals offer EC or EC counseling to sexual assault survivors. In addition, 75% of nurses surveyed said their hospitals always provide EC counseling, compared with 15% that sometimes offer counseling, 5% that never offer counseling and 5% that did not know the hospital's policy.
