The Kansas Association of Counties opposes any new unfunded mandates by the state.  In addition, unfunded mandates now in existence should be funded by the state in recognition of the state/local partnership.
Current state law provides that counties awarding contracts in excess of $10,000 for the construction of county facilities must require the person or firm to whom the award is made to provide a surety bond in the amount of the contract.

Johnson County Commissioner David Lindstrom was the only commissioner to vote against the board’s legislative platform calling for an increased authority to raise taxes.

Of the 84 cases reported in Douglas County, 51 (61%) are in children 18 years or younger and 33 (39%)are in adults).
KDHE has contacted the Local Health Departments in Shawnee, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Wyandotte and Johnson counties about the possibility of transmission of Cryptosporidium, and is urging health departments to contact all physicians in these counties regarding this.
In addition, KDHE is removing Saline County from the list of Kansas counties where increased surveillance for cryptosporidiosis cases is occurring.

We can now add Marion and Sumner County to the list of Kansas counties which will be or have already had a public vote on expanded gambling.
On the chance that it passes, Sumner and Marion counties are the latest to plan public votes in hopes of being considered a casino destination.
While Sedgwick County leaders say they are interested in being a site for a casino, Sebelius points to a lack of unification in local leadership and our legislative delegation and not having a real sense of what the people want.

This is a project being undertaken by Chuck Otte to gather as many resources as possible, i.e., KBBAT (Kansas Breeding Bird Atlas) databases, KOS member sightings, Southwestern College Bird Sightings database, etc., and produce a checklist for each of Kansas' 105 counties.
It does not necessarily reflect accepted records of the Kansas Bird Records Committee, or the Kansas Ornithological Society, but at least some attempt at consistency and reliability is used.
It is hoped that birders will print out these lists, use them in their birdwatching trips and report bird sightings not on the list to the appropriate individuals/organizations (as listed on each checklist).
