On Comics, Canons, and Things You Should read
Comics can be studied much like any other art form, and the narratives presented in comics can be emotional and compelling, two words rarely associated with superheroes except by ‘fanboys’ and ‘true believers’.
The term ‘adult comics’ has become popular, and is often used to denote comics written for mature audiences and often termed ‘comics literature’.
The tough thing about comics is that they are rarely available forever, or even for long, so there is a certain practical merit to keeping lists of good comics current.

 Image Comics
In the early 1990s, several popular Marvel Comics illustrators became angry that artwork and characters they created were being heavily merchandized, with the artists - working as freelancers - receiving only page rates for their work and modest royalties.
They also resented a common attitude among Marvel management (also at rival DC Comics) that the writers and artists were less important to the success of a series than the characters, and could easily be replaced.
Propelled by the artists' star power and the eagerness of comic book collectors to get in early on the "next big thing", these series sold in numbers that no publisher other than Marvel or DC had achieved since the market's drastic decline in the 1970s.

Aside from the dark, dark humor at work here, what makes this such an interesting book is Rall's examination of how his methods of dealing with his tormentor affected his later life.
