The State Department recently revoked the diplomatic visas of 16 people affiliated with an Islamic institute in Virginia, the latest step in a joint U.S.-Saudi crackdown that has led to an exodus of Riyadh's diplomats from the United States in recent months, a senior Saudi official said yesterday.
The State Department's move to revoke the diplomatic status of institute staffers came after Riyadh decided that the institute and its staff would no longer be attached to the embassy.

Since the crisis that followed the 15 may 2005 national and regional election, in which TPLF suffered a humiliating defeat, a significant number of diplomats and other professional experts left their country as a result of the witch-hunt and McCarthyism unleashed by the TPLF security machine.
Former diplomats also observe that, although TPLF diplomacy has never been anything better, the squandering of its staff and the country’s meager resources on this kind of puerile activity shows that the TPLF diplomatic activity is yet in a state of deeper confusion.

 Diplomats Rebuke Bush
Although some of the 27 members of Diplomats and Military Commanders for Change are identified most closely with Democratic administrations, almost all served presidents of both parties — either as ambassadors, executive branch officials or military officers.
The result of these tremors may be the most turbulence in the foreign policy landscape since the late 1970s, when a flight of hawkish Democratic thinkers known as neoconservatives migrated to the GOP in reaction to the dovish post-Vietnam foreign policy embraced by most Democratic politicians.
The group's membership is drawn almost entirely from career diplomatic and military officials who reflect the commitment to internationalism that mostly has held the upper hand in U.S. foreign policy since World War II.
