Diseases of suspected chemical etiology and their prevention, principles of studies on (EHC 72, 1987)
This disease is given special attention, because it affects a very large segment of the population in a developing country and because of growing evidence that deficiency of a certain essential nutrient combined with exposure to a specific chemical may be the factor responsible for this peculiar disease and its specific endemicity.
While several diseases are known to be heritable and therefore to have a genetic etiology, other diseases are known to be caused by specific environmental factors, as in the case of intoxications, infections, or nutritional deficiencies.
The recognition of such diseases is usually based on observations of health personnel that the frequency of a common disease has increased, that a hitherto unknown constellation of clinical manifestations has been encountered, or that the age- specific incidence of a disease is shifting.

 b cell
B cells (abbreviated "B" for the bursa of Fabricius, an organ uniqe to birds where B cells mature; the "B" does not stand for bone marrow, where they are created in all other vertebrates) are lymphocytes that play a large role in the primary immune response.
Plasma B cells secrete antibodies which effect the destruction of antigens by binding to them and making them easier targets for phagocytes.
Memory B cells are formed specific to the antigen(s) encountered during the primary immune response; able to live for a long time, these cells can respond quickly upon second exposure to the antigen for which they are specific.

Social Security Area Population Projections: 1997
The projections start from a recent estimate of the population in the Social Security Area by age, sex, and marital status and from a recent estimate of existing marriages by age of husband and age of wife.
The starting population for the projections was the estimated population in the Social Security Area as of January 1, 1995, by single year of age, sex, and marital status.
The distribution of the number of existing marriages in the starting population by age of husband crossed with age of wife was estimated from data published by the Bureau of the Census in the 1980 Census of Population, Subject Report on Marital Status No. PC80-2-4C.

 The Prion Diseases
Iatrogenic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease has apparently been transmitted by corneal transplantation, implantation of dura mater or electrodes in the brain, use of contaminated surgical instruments, and injection of growth hormone derived from human pituitaries (before recombinant growth hormone became available).
As the diseased cells died, creating holes in the brain, their prions would be released to attack other cells.
All are also usually diseases of middle to later life and are marked by similar pathology: neurons degenerate, protein deposits can accumulate as plaques, and glial cells (which support and nourish nerve cells) grow larger in reaction to damage to neurons.

Herbal medicines for liver diseases in India   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The 21st century has seen a paradigm shift towards therapeutic evaluation of herbal products in liver diseases by carefully synergizing the strengths of the traditional systems of medicine with that of the modern concept of evidence-based medicinal evaluation, standardization of herbal products and randomized placebo controlled clinical trials to support clinical efficacy.
In spite of the availability of more than 300 preparations for the treatment of jaundice and chronic liver diseases in Indian systems of medicine using more than 87 Indian medicinal plants, only four terrestrial plants have been scientifically elucidated while adhering to the internationally acceptable scientific protocols.
Extensive studies on Phyllanthus amarus have confirmed this plant preparation as being anti-viral against hepatitis B and C viruses, hepatoprotective and immunomodulating, as well as possessing anti-inflammatory properties.
