 Stressed Basins in Massachusetts
A stressed basin is defined as a basin or sub-basin in which the quantity of streamflow has been significantly reduced, or the quality of the streamflow is degraded, or the key habitat factors are impaired.
In addition a preliminary list of dams which impede fish passage is available in the 1998 303d list.
For the purposes of stressed basins, hydrologic stress is defined as the relative strength of rivers in Massachusetts.

 Drainage Guidelines
Drainage basin, manhole and other minor structure excavations are made to the bottom of footing (base or foundation slab) elevation.
Pre-cast concrete drainage unit sections shall be joined by a male-female joint and sealed with a choice of flexible elastomeric gaskets, pipe joint sealing compounds or concrete mortar, grout or repair material.
Drainage unit steps may be cast or bolted in place during construction and mortared with a concrete grout after completed or attached by friction locking into preformed and/or drilled holes.

 Teche / Vermilion Basin
The Vermilion Basin lost 42,293 acres (14.8 percent) of marsh since 1932, nearly half of which was lost between 1951 and 1974, which is a relatively low rate compared to rates in other basins.
Although the basin is geologically stable and benefits from the emerging Atchafalaya River delta, geomorphologic and hydrologic conditions have been altered by the dredging of navigation and petroleum access canals and the construction of spoil banks and levees.
Hot spots in this basin are smaller than in other basins; they presumably originate from hydrologic changes that alter the balance between the marsh maintenance and deterioration processes, but the specific causes vary from place to place.

The basin number is already in the name, so four characters identify the individual wetland in the sub-basin.
The gauge records are listed in order based on their locator number, with the set of rain gauges listed first, then the streamflow records.
The lists are segregated by monitoring type: stream gauges, which include any recording water level monitoring site; recording rain gauges; nonrecor ding staff and crest stage gauges; water quality monitoring sites.

Better Assessment Science Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources (BASINS Version 2,0) Modeling System (on CD-ROM)
BASINS is a multipurpose environmental analysis system for use by regional, state, and local agencies in performing watershed- and water-quality-based studies.
BASINS is designed to facilitate all of these scenarios because it incorporates tools that operate on both large and small watersheds.
BASINS operates on hydrologic units or watersheds as defined by the United States Geological Survey delineations referred to as "cataloging units." These watersheds can vary in size from 10 square miles to several hundred square miles.

ArcView GIS Extension for Estimating Curve Numbers
In calculating the quantity of runoff from a drainage basin, the curve number is used determine the amount of precipitation excess that results from a rainfall event over the basin.
Because it is a function of the soil and land use of a drainage basin, estimation of a curve number requires mapping of the soil and land use within the drainage basin boundaries, and specification of unique soil types and unique land use categories.
The curve number is estimated for a drainage basin using a combination of land use, soil, and antecedent soil moisture condition (AMC).

Freshwater Fishes of Iran, Introduction - Drainage Basins - Tigris River
The Tigris-Euphrates basin encompasses 784,500 sq km of which 19% or 146,000 sq km lies in Iran (Gleick (1993) gives 238,500 sq km and 27% for Iran and 884,000 sq km for the whole basin; the Iraqi Government in the same publication gives 378,834 sq km for the Tigris basin alone with Iran's share 28.8%).
Tangs formed because an antecedent drainage over lower relief was gradually uplifted at a rate slow enough to permit streams to cut through ridges and retain the original pattern of drainage once the softer material was washed out of the valleys between the anticlines.
The divide between endo- and exo-rheic basins is not the snowline of the Zagros but is east of it, so streams must first cross the Zagros peaks to start on their journey to the Persian Gulf.

 Lake Pontchartrain Basin
The basin contains 483,390 acres of wetlands, consisting of nearly 38,500 acres of fresh marsh, 28,600 acres of intermediate marsh, 116,800 acres of brackish marsh, 83,900 acres of saline marsh, and 215,600 acres of cypress swamp.
The primary causes of wetland loss in the basin are the interrelated effects of human activities and the estuarine processes that began to predominate many hundreds of years ago, as the delta was abandoned.
A second critical problem, occurring in the lower basin, is the erosion along the MRGO caused by ship-induced waves.

River Basins   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
A river basin is the entire area drained by a stream and its tributaries.
In the Sabine River basin, mean annual rainfall is nearly 60 inches and annual evaporation is less than 70 inches, whereas in the Rio Grande basin, mean annual rainfall ranges from 8 to 20 inches and annual evaporation is as much as 105 inches.
River basins commonly align parallel to faults and fractures and then abruptly bend at high angles, forming kinks controlled by intersections of structures.

How to: Install drainage   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
A variety of drainage products and techniques are available to grounds managers and superintendents, including newer technologies that are receiving some recognition lately.
I'll discuss three basic categories of drainage for solving such problems: surface drainage, drainage basins with grates and piping, and seepage drainage using perforated pipe and gravel.
Because slope is so important for drainage, a transit or level is good to have on hand to "shoot" grades.

This is especially true for connections at CATCH BASINS, MANHOLES, DRAIN BASINS, INLET DRAINS and in the union joints of such catchments requiring risers.
At the surface, if traffic is expected, or at great depths where soil drag-down can occur from the soil locking into riser corrugations, or where water tight joints are required, poured concrete around all of the connection joint and part of the fitting should be employed.

An area bounded by a drainage divide that gathers water originating as precipitation and contributes it to a particular stream channel or system of channels, or to a lake, reservoir, or other body of water.
A drainage basin can be small, such as one that contributes water to a small pond, or large, such as the one that contributes water to the Wabash River.
Its drainage is subterranean, its size is measured in meters or tens of meters, and it is commonly funnel-shaped.

We also construct a similarity graph based on the comparison of basins' hypsometric curves to demonstrate that hypsometry is incapable of discriminating between terrestrial and Martian basins.
Integral-geometry methods are used to represent each basin by a circularity function that encapsulates its internal structure.

The most critcal effect missing from realtime procedural terrain is the errosion of rain and runoff and the resulting river basin topologies.

The nice property of this method is that it is strictly local, coarse-to-fine, general, and a natural match for a real-time view-dependent display algorithm.

Catch basins are underground boxes that receive stormwater through a grate at ground level and/or through an inlet pipe.

Section 1080 of the Town's Subdivision Regulations specifically addresses storm drainage, although it tends to focus on removal of stormwater rather than on sediment control and treatment.
