100 Greatest Films of All Time
The ranked list represents a wide range of some of the most innovative, popular and striking films across all major genres, with special consideration of their appeal and significance to a modern British audience.
The list aimed to include films that are generally considered as classics of cinema, broke new ground in technique, subject matter or ideas, had phenomenal popular appeal and a lasting impact on popular culture and represent the greatest work of cinema's most respected directors and performers.
That's not to say it will have you hiding behind the sofa but, for a film that deals with missed opportunities and one man's dark night of the soul, it is all the more impressive it has garnered a feel-good reputation.

Adventure films are set in an exotic location or different historical period, from the middle ages through the 19th century.
In the hard-boiled detective film, crime becomes a dark metaphor that is symptomatic of what is wrong with society, rather than simply a single aberration from the norm.
Film noir was primarily made in a cycle during the 1940s and into the 1950s, but includes work made in previous and subsequent years that invoke the feel and mood of classical film noir.

Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies - Intervention
The film is a loose adaptation of the graphic novel V for Vendetta by Alan Moore and David Lloyd.
Thus, the film presents a "success story" of how cycles of humiliation can be left behind; the documentary shows how the discontinuation of practices that are experienced as humiliating is achieved by methods that do not humiliate the "perpetrators," but convince them respectfully to change their ways.
Viewing the film is like receiving a nuanced introduction into the human condition that allows for, as one might formulate it, choosing oneself "away." Or, for humbleness that goes too far and turns into some kind of voluntary self-humiliation, a humiliation of the human capacity for judgment.

List of dystopian films - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a list of films commonly regarded as dystopian.
Many of the listed works are not controversial, in the sense that their dystopian character is generally acknowledged.
Critics do not always agree whether a particular work is genuinely dystopian or whether - despite the more menacing and dehumanising elements in the society it portrays - it is really an attempt to depict a heterotopia, a society that is neither utopian nor entirely bad, but different from our own.

Chaplin pressed on, investing his fortune in the film, because he was "determined to go ahead for Hitler must be laughed at." Sometimes evil is so ridiculous and contrary to humanity that comedy is the only appropriate way to deal with it.
Hitler was a film buff (much like another recently satirized dictator) and it is confirmed that he saw the movie at least once, and probably twice.
Film adaptations of two of my favorite books are in the works - The Giver is in pre-production and Atlas Shrugged is being written.

Its use of science is sketchy at best - light-speed travel is dealt with by the use of a "hyperspace" where the normal laws of physics don't seem to apply and force-wielding Jedi fight with theoretically impossible lightsabers - but the emphasis here is certainly not on answering the problems of the human condition.

The German film industry responded with Heimatfilm, a style that defied decades of insistently experimental German film to give audiences the same sort of soothing feel-good froth that American audiences were eating up.
In fact, Heimat films are so devoid of anything that can be called a style it’s almost as if one of the things audiences wanted to be coaxed into forgetting was the constant visual stylization of the past several decades.
Accordingly, the films all focus on hearty people living by the firm morals of their ancestors as they frisk about in the fresh mountain air—which, when you think about it, is the exact sort of idealization that got the Germans in trouble in the first place.
