Karachi (کراچي) is the largest city of Pakistan and the capital of the province of Sindh.
Karachi is located at latitude 24° 48´ N and longitude 66° 59´ E. The urban sprawl starts from the westernmost mouth of the River Indus and goes up to the mountains and hills that form the southernmost edges of the Kirthar Mountain Range.
Karachi is the home of the University of Karachi, founded in 1951, as well as of NED University of Engineering and Technology; other notable landmarks include the tomb of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan's first governor general from 1947.

These 42 private higher educational institutions were asked by the provincial education department to get them registered with it by March 20, under the relevant law, or their campuses in the province will be closed down forcibly.
It is said that the institutions in question have formed an unannounced association and threatened of resistance against the department, which include moving to courts.
He said that the list of all "illegal" higher education institutions, either running degree programmes in collaboration with foreign varsities or offering degrees without approval of the HEC or the provincial education department, was provided by the HEC authorities to the education department.

KARACHI, Dec 18: The University of Karachi on Thursday released the provisional list of about 3,200 candidates for admissions to BA (Honours), BSc (Honours), BCom (Honours) and B Pharmacy classes for the academic session 2004.
A KU official said the provisional lists for admissions to bachelor programmes had been displayed at the notice board outside the campus at the Silver Jubilee gate.
The list opens at 76.27 per cent of marks and closes at 61.18 per cent of marks.
