  Exponential function Summary
Scientists from various fields use exponential functions as models for growth and decay phenomena in which a quantity is assumed to grow or decay at a rate which is proportional to the amount of the quantity at any given time.
Exponential functions and modifications of exponential functions are currently being used to study such phenomena as the growth of the internet, the spread of AIDS, the projected growth or decay of the national debt, and much more.
The exponential function maps any line in the complex plane to a logarithmic spiral in the complex plane with the center at the origin.

Exponential growth - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Such an exponentially growing population grows three times as fast in individuals per year when there are six million individuals, as it does when there are two million.
The phrase exponential growth is incorrectly used by persons not versed in quantitative matters to mean merely surprisingly fast growth (a potential malapropism).
Exponential here means something only in relative terms and it merely implies a proportionality of rate of growth to size (and certainly not that the proportion is large).

Exponential growth - Enpsychlopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Many responses of living beings to stimuli, including human perception, are logarithmic responses, which are the inverse of exponential responses; the loudness and frequency of sound are perceived logarithmically, even with very faint stimulus, within the limits of perception.
This is the reason that exponentially increasing the brightness of visual stimuli is perceived by humans as a smooth (linear) increase, rather than an exponential increase.
Generally it is important for the organisms to respond to stimuli in a wide range of levels, from very low levels, to very high levels, while the accuracy of the estimation of differences at high levels of stimulus is much less important for survival.

User:Smack has listed [[list of exponential topics]], a list I originated and maintain still, at VfD, on the sole ground that he has added an equivalent category.
I have posted a couple of times here already about the harmful (as I see it) effect of talk assuming that categories are in some way now the de facto standard.
I intend to make this a test case at VfD, so that the ludicrous idea of removing a list that serves a proper purpose on WP can be knocked on the head, once and for all.

The trouble is that is a little difficult to discuss these topics in a meaningful way without mathematics.

A formal announcement is due Thursday from the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, a Boston non-profit group with ties to Harvard University that dedicates itself to restoring old-fashioned capitalism, profit-driven businesses and non-government jobs to urban neighborhoods across the country.
The list carries prestige because few companies can boast the exponential growth rates that qualify for a listing.
