We unite Black banjo with scholars, pickers, lovers, and builders of the banjo and related instrument concerned with preserving the heritage of past Black banjo players and encouraging contemporary Black banjo players.
Black Banjo Then and Now includes African American banjoists who play old time music, classic banjo, blues, bluegrass, jazz and funk, as well as other banjoists, fiddlers, percussionists, and scholars.
We also began to call attention to the work of the growing number of contemporary Black recording artists playing banjo such as Taj Mahal, Otis Taylor, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Corey Harris Don Vappie, the Ebony Hillbillies, and Guy Davis.

Many of the pipe marches, reels and jigs included in this collection were composed by pipers attached to the Highland Regiments in the army but some are much older and date from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Famous bagpipe composers such as Donald MacLeod, George MacLennan, Peter R. MacLeod, Willie Lawrie and many more are represented in these volumes as well as contemporary tunes by present day pipers, fiddlers and accordionists (Bobby Macleod, Freeland Barbour, Addie Harper etc) who are all producing tunes in Highland bagpipe style.

Puckett was a fixture at the annual Georgia Old-Time Fiddlers' Conventions, held in Atlanta's old Municipal Auditorium, and was also one of the first performers featured on WSB Radio after the station signed on in 1922.
The Puckett papers consist of one folder containing a brief biography of and list of recordings made by Riley Puckett, and nine photographic images of Puckett, his family, and other contemporary country musicians.
In 1983, Puckett was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame.
