Schindler's List - The Film Guide   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The film's action starts with crowds of Jews from all over the country, hasidic, assimilated, rich, and poor, detraining in Krakow, and submitting their names to German officials waiting on the station platforms with typewriters and lists.
Film critics and scholars have suggested the appearance of the girl in the red coat is a "marker" used by Spielberg to denote the transformation of Schindler's personality.
In February of 1997, the film was shown on television in the United States, being carried by NBC in two parts, on consecutive Sunday and Wednesday evenings (February 23 and 26).

Home Theater Forum - HTF REVIEW: The Martin Scorsese Collection (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).
While the film is by no means the best of the collection, it’s easy to see how it would eventually become a precursor to the many great mob films that followed.
The film was written by Nicholas Pileggi based on his book “Wiseguy”, which is a real life account of Henry Hill (played by Ray Liotta) who is a small time gangster who gets involved with the mafia at a young age in a neighborhood full of tough guys.
As the film starts there appears to be some compression artifacting noticeable throughout the sky but it is short lived and the remainder of the film is free of any other compression issues.

 Mezzanine Mark: Garden State.....Scarily good
Like the rest of us, I had heard comparisons to The Graduate (which happens to be my favorite film of all time, and #7 on the American Film Institutes list of top 100 American films of the 20th Century.) With such a lofty comparison, I was both skeptical, and excited to see this film.
A film that is so engrossing that it almost requires discussion, and so expertly crafted that virtually anyone in a generation can relate and apply it to their own lives, is top notch in my book.
After all, that's what films are all about.....they're about moving people, bringing people together who had otherwise resigned themselves to being isolated, and realizing every one of us takes part in a soap opera everyday that is so much more compelling and real than anything you can see on a television screen.

The film was mediocre and the director a pompous hack whose good movies lean towards special effects as a character, not special effects as a background.
However, they all fit my criteria for the list, and many films which were made on a very low budget have been passed over simply because of the fact that they didn't have a lot of money to advertise their films.

Still, the film's contribution to the art of movie making is undeniable and continues to be acknowledged through inclusion on the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress and the American Film Institutes's list of the One Hundred Greatest Movies.
