  HIST 450b British Raj: Film List
While some of these films are not very accurate or good, a few are excellent and effectively recreate the environment and compelling issues that people living in British India faced at different moments in their history.
And since films are the media through which much of the general public gain their impressions of British India and other parts of South Asia, they are worthy of consideration by historians for that reason alone.
Filming began in 2003 and the opening scene was launched by Charles, Prince of Wales during his state visit to India.

 TFSA '04 List of Films
The film touches upon corruption, the mafia, energy politics and displacement of villages, and tribal identity in an area where coal has been mined for the last 150 years.
This film is a critique of modern man’s mercenary attitude towards nature and his anthropocentric conception of development.
The film asks why most of these incidents have taken place in areas where indigenous Adivasi people are majorities, and leaves us to ask why, in the age of globalisation, the state has turned from protector to predator.

This film is a melancholy, dream-like poetic film.
The earlier film version made in 1958, whatever its virtues, had the ending changed to be Cold War friendly in stark contrast to Greene's novel which was trenchantly critical of the American role.

 Greatest Films Lists
This "Greatest 100 Films" list was created and posted on the Web in mid-1996, almost two years before the American Film Institute's (AFI) much-publicized list in June of 1998 (see Other Greatest Films Lists link below), and before Roger Ebert began his "Great Movies" website.
Combines all three lists of predominantly American-Hollywood and English-language films: the original 100 Greatest Films list, the Another 100 Greatest Films list, and the Third 200 Greatest Films list, and orders all 300 films chronologically.
Although this website doesn't believe in the value of ranking films, it is nonetheless interesting to see how a certain number of films often appear at the very top of their rankings or ratings.

About film about morality and friendship it is also smarter and has a darker atmosphere than the holiday advertisements would have you remember.
Whether the activities portrayed in the film are accurate or not is contested but even if they are false this film would still stand as a brilliant twisting of truth.

A film by Sheldon Rochlin and Mikki Mahler.
Filmed at the Tibetan Medical Center, which was established in exile by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the Indian Himalayas and is the only remaining center of Tibetan medicine.
Filmed in Sera, the second largest monastery of old Tibet, andDharamsala, present headquarters of the Dalai Lama's administration in exile, the film portrays the Buddhist practices and philosophy which shape the lives of both monks and lay people.

Begun in the fall of 1973 as the film exhibition program of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, this program has been from the beginning a three-way collaboration, and has evolved into a long-standing friendship amongst three disparate individuals who have virtually only one thing in common: their love of the movies.
Putting together such a list is fraught with difficulties and frustrations and, by necessity, must be subjected to serious editing.

 List Center presents films, talks - MIT News Office
If you haven't yet seen the List Visual Arts Center's latest exhibition, Global Conceptualism: Points of Origin, 1950s-1980s, featuring more than 200 conceptual works from the 1950s through the 1980s, you've still got time: the show is up through Sunday, Dec. 31.
Meanwhile, the List will present two films by Global Conceptualism artists in conjunction with the show: Wavelength,a 45-minute film by Michael Snow on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7pm; and Zorns Lemma, a 60-minute film by Hollis Frampton on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7pm ($3; free for MIT students and affiliates).
The artists will express their thoughts about curators' and critics' abilities to keep the "be here now" spirit of their work available for critical inquiry and inspiration for future generations.

 Medieval Sourcebook: Medieval History in the Movies
Although "medieval" and "movies" might not seem to be a good fit -- and a lot of bad films have been made -- it is perhaps worth noting that they have gone together since the earliest surviving American feature film - André Calmettes and James Keane Richard III of 1912.
Mostly filmed with all characters naked, and the dialogue is all in Latin.
Falconetti's intensely innocent face is the focus of the action, such as it is. Kael is correct in her assessment of the film.

The lengthy list of CIA films at the Archives has never been publicly released, but researcher Michael Ravnitzky requested and received a copy from NARA.
Many of the films were created by the CIA, and some - such as news reports and the occasional Hollywood movie - were not.
In addition, requesters should be aware that they might be able to view the films at NARA at no cost, but to obtain a video copy the first requester for any particular film will likely have to pay for the creation of a video master, and then a dub from that master.
