The term, found art, or more commonly, found object (French: objet trouvé) describes art created from common objects that are not normally considered art.
Found art derives significance from the context into which it is placed, thus blurring the traditional distinction of what is art, and what is not art, and challenges the nature of art.
Pablo Picasso used found objects as the basis for Baboon and Young.

The Commission for Art Recovery is dedicated to reuniting works of art looted by the Nazis before and during World War II with their rightful owners and/or their heirs.

The time frame index has been placed in order by the artist's year (or approximate year) of birth, or, where that was lacking, by the year they became active in painting or simply the century.
In most cases you will find the actual date of birth, so keep in mind that although you may think of an artist belonging in a particular century, they might actually be found in the preceding one because that is when they were born.
