Where Naked Gun really shines is its attention to physical gags: props, background jokes, and a long sequence of Frank taking a piss while wearing a mike still hooked up to a press conference.
My parents took me to see Naked Gun on opening night, and it was one of those eye-opening earth-shaking life-changing experiences that happen only occasionally during your time on Earth.
I saw how effective sight gags could be, when executed properly (the “everywhere I look, something reminds me of her” scene with the twin silos is one of the greatest gags ever conceived).

I have enjoyed watching the Naked Gun films since I was a kid and I am pleased that they have finally released them all together on a DVD box set.
In my opinion naked gun is brilliant, thats pretty vague, but for me it has to be spontaneous humor that gets me, things that you think should go really smoothly but thanks to Frank Drebin often never does.
Naked gun is based on the TV series Police Squad, and each film Frank Drebin and his team have to solve a certain crime, and following a strict police code *sarcasm* to solve the crime results in instant laughs.

This is more than a film of one-liners and slapstick gags (although lets face it, it is jam packed full of rip tickling jokes) there is also some of the sharpest observational humour around and even then there is room for some memorable spoofing swipes at other films.
I watched this after watching the other 2 in the series, and so I was slightly disappointed, but then the other 2 Naked gun films were incredibly funny, and this raised my expectation a bit.

Naked gun had this problem, not because the show wasn't funny (Friends is NOT funny) but because is was extremely funny, but people didn't understand the humor because the producers were smart enough not to insult our intelligence by telling us when to laugh.
You may argue that the Naked Gun movies were just a rehash, but oh what a great rehash and some great new stuff too (plus I love Priscilla and her nice beaver).
The first Naked Gun was a high water moment in film comedy because they successfully created something resembling a plot, new characters and new jokes (while repeating some old ones) for an hour and a half.

The third entry of the series, "The Naked Gun 33 1/3 - The Final Insult" was relased three years after the previous installment, "The Naked Gun 2 1/2 - The Smell Of Fear", in 1994.
We have an Untouchables spoof at the start which was quite amusing and in classic Naked Gun humor and we have the whole situation at the Oscars that will remind you a bit of the baseball sequence at the end of the first movie.

The third film in the Naked Gun series, based on the TV series "Police Squad!," is a near complete wash-out.
The third Naked Gun film is very far from the early days of ZAZ, and closely resembles the many uninspired spoofs that have killed the sub-genre.

Their parody comedy and comedic timing was second to none and is still emulated in a lot of the comedies of today.

The reinvention of the failed series as a theatrical feature seems to have inspired everyone involved to make a pretty funny movie, and the jokes gather a momentum that lasts until the final act.
Naked Gun is based on a short lived television show called Police Squad which was basicaly a spoof of Dragnet and all the old time police dramas.
It didn't rely on sick or gross humor but on simple slap stick and straight one liners by people who are taking their roles seriously without being in on the joke that we the viewer are in on.

As per usual, the B list stars are in abundance.
This series was created to spoof the teen genre but now but now its still young characters are expected to be older.
All it does is further dampen the reputation of a series and add stupidity to each scene while continually proving the series old, stale and worthless just like the horror genre its supposed to be spoofing.

When he does in fact die, he returns in spirit form to guide a young pilot (Johnson) who wants to pursue the same career and the same woman.
With Spielberg behind the camera and two charismatic stars, it's certainly entertaining but suffers from a serious case of The Cutes.
Gags are subordinate to action here_which, given the gags, may not have been such a bad idea.

I love them all from Airoplane (or Flying High) which started it all, through to Hotheads, the various Leslie Nielsen films including the Naked Gun saga and most of Mel Blanks’ movies, but this is the king of them all.
In order to quantify the number of witty gags and reference in dialogue one needs to watch the movie several times and each new movie you find something that you have missed.

It was incomprehensible and the opposite of the tv series (the series, after all, was about how you need the whole team; the first MI movie killed off the team at the start).
Anyway, title aside, this is a surprisingly good and serious retelling of a classic story, in the Greystoke tradition of rediscovering the truth at the heart of a mythic tale that has usually been treated like a cartoon.
