Genetic disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are genetic disorders caused by the abnormal chromosome number, as in Down syndrome (extra chromosome 21) and Klinefelter's syndrome (a male with 2 X chromosomes).
X-linked dominant disorders are caused by mutations in genes on the X chromosome.
Y-linked disorders are caused by mutations on the Y chromosome.

List of Genetic Disorders and Diseases Information
A genetic disorder, or genetic disease is a disease caused, at least in part, by the genes of the person with the disease.
There are genetic disorders caused by the accidental duplication of a chromosome, as in Down syndrome, or repeated duplication of part of a chromosome as in Fragile X syndrome.
Genetic disorders can frequently be explained as due to the change of a single DNA base in a gene, resulting in an enzyme or other protein either not being produced, or having altered functionality.

Chicago Center for Jewish Genetics Disorders - About Jewish Genetic Disorders
The "Jewish" genetic disorders are a group of conditions which are unusually common among Jews of eastern European (Ashkenazi) descent.
Scientists believe that certain disorders became more common among Ashkenazi Jews because of at least two processes: the "founder effect" and "genetic drift." The "founder effect" refers to the chance presence of these genes among the "founders" or ancestors who immigrated to eastern Europe at the time of the Diaspora (70 A.D.).
There is no "official" list of these conditions, and they include disorders which directly result from mutated genes (Mendelian disorders), and disorders which result from the combination of specific genes (disease predisposition genes) plus other factors.

FuturePundit: Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis To Grow In Popularity
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is done to embryos in vitro to identify embryos which are free of specific genetic disorders.
If, say, someone knew that for their genetic complement only one of a particular pair of chromosomes coded for higher intelligence or a happier disposition one can easily imagine that that person would elect to use PGD to make sure that their offspring received the chromosome that coded for the desired feature.
That would still rule out the ideas of the genetic visionaries like Stock, who think PGD could be the first step to 'designer babies' and the re-engineering of mankind, by allowing parents to select among their embryos for all sorts of desirable (to the parents) qualities.

 Genetic Disease Information
A genetic disorder is a disease caused by abnormalities in an individual’s genetic material (genome).
With specialized backgrounds in medical genetics and counseling, genetic counselors work with medical personnel (usually M.D. Medical Geneticists) to give information, answer questions, and offer support to persons and families who have genetic disorders, are undergoing gene testing, or may be at risk for inheriting genetic disorders.
If you are tested for or diagnosed with a genetic disorder and this information becomes a part of your medical record, insurance companies, employers, and other agencies mat be able to access this information.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis - UCONN Fertility Center - connecticut preimplantation diagnosis, in vitro ...
For couples aware of genetic disorders through family history or based on carrier testing, PGD testing can be performed to help avoid a pregnancy or child born with the specified genetic condition.
In genetic disorders where the gene structure is known, such as Cystic Fibrosis or Tay-Sachs, the actual genes of the embryo are examined for presence of the condition.
Other genetic disorders, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy or hemophilia, only affect males and, therefore, the DNA of the embryo is examined to determine the sex and only the female embryos are transferred.

Science Lesson Plan Maker Sample- Genetic Disorders & Genetic Testing
Genetic disorders are inherited by offspring from their parents.
Genetic disorders are passed from parents to offspring in the genetic code, and in some cases, a person may be a carrier for a disease and pass it to their children without knowing.
Because genetic diseases are usually caused by errors or mutations in the genetic code, it is extremely difficult to cure the condition, and in most cases, doctors can only treat the symptoms.
