Definition of List of genres of reggae
The term "Reggae" is, in a proper sense, only supposed to cover the period in Jamaican music from 1969 to 1979 or 1985 (depending on how you look at it).
Rather than create a more confusing "List of Genres of Jamaican music but not R&B or Mento" article it is therefore pertinent to keep everything under the Reggae name whether it warrants it or not.
Reggae, being predominantly confined to a small island, tends not to have too many different genres flourishing at once.

  Reggae Summary
Reggae may be used in a broad sense to refer to most types of Jamaican music, including ska, rocksteady and dub.The term is generally used to distinguish a particular style that originated in the late 1960s.
Reggae is founded upon a rhythm style which is characterized by regular chops on the back beat, known as the "skank", played by a rhythm guitarist, and a bass drum hitting on the third beat of each measure, known as "one drop." Characteristically, this beat is slower than in reggae's precursors, ska and rocksteady.
Reggae is often associated with the Rastafari movement, which influenced many prominent reggae musicians in the 1970s and 1980s.

Reggae - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Reggae is a style of music developed in Jamaica and is closely linked to the Rastafari movement, though not universally popular among Rastafarians.
In any case, the toasting or dee jaying of raggamuffin reggae — first used by artists such as Dillinger or U-Roy — had a world-wide impact because Jamaican DJ Kool Herc used them as he came up with a new style later called hip hop or rap music.
The experimental pioneering of such producers within often restricted technological parameters gave birth to dub reggae, and is seen by some music historians as one of the earliest (albeit analogue) contributions to the development of techno.

In the 1960s, ska was the preferred music genre of rude boys, although many ska artists condemned the violent rude boy subculture.
According to reggae historian Steve Barrow, during the sessions, Prince Buster told guitarist Jah Jerry, to "change gear, man, change gear," and the guitar began emphasizing the second and fourth beats in the bar, giving rise to the new sound.
The genre was a fusion of Jamaican ska rhythms and melodies with punk rock's uncompromising lyrics and aggressive guitar chords.

You can't remove genre's from the drop down list (unless you modify your library database directly), but genre's should not show up on the node list unless something is tagged with that genre.
On the node list, you can actually rename the genre to a different one (which updates the tags of those files), or rename it to nothing and it will clear the genre tags of those files.
Is there any way to remove a genre which was used but is no longer, e.g., make it grey'ed out again.

 Definitions of Style - Reggae
Familiar around the globe primarily because of the hypnotic music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, reggae is a Jamaican popular music that developed in the late 1960s in the wake of its predecessors: ska, mento, and rock steady.
Reflecting the uptempo nature of the classic RandB artists, ska was a high-energy dance music, but it gave way in the mid-1960s to a slower, more deliberate form known as rock steady.
Reggae, as we know it today, emerged when these musicians fell under the influence of the longer songs and open-ended instrumental improvisation.
