 Iapetus (moon)
Iapetus (eye-ap'-i-tus, Greek Ιαπετός) (British spelling: "Japetus") is the third-largest moon of Saturn (see: Saturn's natural satellites), discovered by Giovanni Domenico Cassini in 1671.
Iapetus is best known for its dramatic 'two-tone' coloration, but recent discoveries by the Cassini-Huygens mission have revealed several other unusual physical characteristics.
Iapetus is a heavily cratered body, and Cassini images have revealed large impact basins in the dark region, at least three of which are over 350 km wide.

In Greek mythology, Iapetus was a Titan – a God - the son of Uranus and Gaia and the ancestor of mankind.
He suggested that Iapetus had a light side and a dark side, and that it always kept the same face turned to Saturn (in the same way that our moon always keeps the same face turned to the Earth).
The consensus of opinion is that Iapetus, and many of the moons of similar density, is/are made mainly from water ice.

I think the eveidence supports "yes" because the escarpment that runs the circumfarence of Iapetus, likens considerably to that of mercurys' and is the result of shrinkage through cooling where separated or layered materials, contracting at different rates, produce visable asymetry in objects.
Iapetus surface gravity of 2 1/2% that of earth would imply orbital velocity of inner ring edge just prior to contact with surface of approximately 1500 kph.
Additonally, if the cratering rate on iapetus was high enough, a tenuous impact derived atmosphere may have existed long enough to have also interacted with the possible ring structure.

The BIRPS deep seismic reflection data of WIRE (West of IREland) 1/1B from Galway Bay to the Celtic Sea are integrated with geological and other geophysical data to produce a synthesis of the fundamental tectonic character of the crust in and around southern Ireland.
It is proposed that the Lower Palaeozoic volcano-sedimentary rocks which form the Leinster massif extend southwestward beneath the Variscan province and at least 30 km offshore to the WIRE lines.
We argue that the weak south-dipping reflectors in the upper and middle crust south of the Iapetus Suture represent an early-Caledonian fault system linked to a mid-crustal detachment which formed during the south-dipping subduction event recorded onshore by the Ordovician volcano-sedimentary successions.

In this image of Iapetus, the prominent linear ridge in the center of the dark area - a place known as Cassini Regio - marks the equator quite closely.
One of these features is a long narrow ridge that lies almost exactly on the equator of Iapetus, bisects its entire dark hemisphere and reaches 20 kilometers high (12 miles).
The hope is that the increased detail may shed light on Iapetus' amazing features and the question of whether it has been volcanically active in the past.

The implications of this might be that once fully mapped and understood, the scientists studying this ridge feature should be able to identify specific impact crater(s) on Iapetus surface as having been the specific one(s) that occured during ring collapse and 'adjusted' axis of Iapetus.
Iapetus seems to be spherical enough, preserves an apparently maximally ancient surface, and has a low enough orbital velocity to allow this admittedly unlikely feature to form.
If Iapetus orbit around Saturn is situated closer to plane of Saturn's orbit around sun rather than more inclined, then it would appear that Iapetus would be closer to Saturn's magnetotail every orbit around Saturn rather than for some periods every 14 years when Iapetus, Saturn and sun are aligned.
