Volcano - Facts, Information, and Encyclopedia Reference article
A volcano is a geological landform (usually a mountain) where magma (rock of the Earth's interior made molten or liquid by extremely high temperatures along with a reduction in pressure and/or the introduction of water or other volatiles) erupts through the surface of the planet.
In February 2001, the largest recorded volcanic eruptions in the solar system occurred on Io See the list of geological features on Io for a list of named volcanoes on the moon.
Volcanic cones are usually smaller features composed of loose ash and cinder, with occasional masses of stone which have been tossed violently into the air by the eruptive forces (and are thus called ejecta).

 The Classification of Martian Features
Features on Mars are grouped by their aerological(geological) category or type.
These are features we observe because of variations in the amount of sunlight reflected by the martian surface.
Used to describe those features that appear to be the result of a landslide.

The goals of the present study are (1) to characterize the visible and near-infrared spectral reflectance of Io's diverse surface materials, (2) identify spectral units and map their global distribution, and (3) search for regional or global changes in the color and albedo of the surface in the 17 years since the Voyager encounters.
Approximately 0.8% of Io was mantled with new dark deposits, much of it during the eruption of Pillan in 1997 that took place after the acquisition of the images shown in Plates 1 and 2.
If the bulk of Io's resurfacing is restricted to just 1% of the surface, the approximate area of new or altered dark materials, then meters to tens of meters thickness must have accumulated over the last two decades in these persistently active areas to account for the global average.

Io is unusual in being a rocky world, and in the predominance of active volcanism (Unit IV) which shapes its surface today.
The abundant cliffs on Io may be tectonic in origin, or they may be related to sublimation of a volatile material and subsequent collapse, a form of gradation.

The surface may be geologically young (perhaps only a few tens of millions of years old) Indications that material has been upwellings from the interior is helping scientists to figure out what lies under Europa's surface.
Geological activity in the form of what scientists call "ice volcanoes" appears to have sent material up through trenches, thousands of miles long, which riddle this moon's surface with a seemingly chaotic network of cracks.

A volcano is a geological landform (usually a mountain) where a substance, usually magma (rock of the Earth's interior made molten or liquid by extremely high temperatures along with a reduction in pressure and/or the introduction of water or other volatiles) erupts through the surface of a planet.
In fact, because the caldera has frequent earthquakes, a very active geothermal system (i.e., the entirety of the geothermal activity found in Yellowstone National Park), and rapid rates of ground uplift, many scientists consider it to be a very active volcano.
Image:Cryovolcanism on enceladus.jpg In 1989 the Voyager 2 spacecraft observed ice volcanoes (cryovolcanism) on Triton, a moon of Neptune and in 2005 the Cassini-Huygens probe photographed fountains of frozen particles erupting from Saturn's moon Enceladus.

Geological similarities persist from the south bank of Byrd Glacier for more than 1,700 kilometers to the Pensacola Mountains, where fossil- and isotopically-dated sedimentary and volcanic sequences accumulated and were deformed during a series of events throughout the Cambrian.
Regardless of what appears to be a markedly different geological history north and south of Byrd Glacier, a tremendous magmatic flare-up gorged the Ross orogen throughout the length of the Transantarctic Mountains at ~510-480 Ma, followed by widespread cooling and erosion which produced a regional erosion surface overlain by the Devonian-Triassic Beacon Supergroup.
