However, periodic table probably belongs more to list of chemistry topics, and geologists should have the choice of adding it to their watch list separately.
Following the example of List of mathematical topics is fine as long as people observe the rule not to add articles that fall into one of the (currently) 30 subordinate lists, and when they create a new list, they remove those terms from List of mathematical topics.
The other solution would be to create one list for the "core" knowledge in geology (basically everything one should have learned as an undergraduate student) plus many smaller lists for specialized fields, and fields of knowledge that draw from more than one unrelated field.

The word "geology" was first used by Jean-André Deluc in the year 1778 and introduced as a fixed term by Horace-Bénédict de Saussure in the year 1779.

When there was just the proposed new topics forum it was annoying but tollerable, but now when I list all topics, it appears that 75% of them are all useless closed topics in the topics archive forum.
I think a function to be able to filter out the threads in the 'proposed new topics' and/or the 'proposed topics archive' when using the all topics list would be very helpful.
The old "Proposed New Topics" archive system removed the topics from the various lists, and hid them away in an archive that could still be viewed if you knew where to look.
