Georgia was one of the thirteen colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution.
Georgia's Constitution provides all counties and cities with "home rule" authority, and so the county commissions have considerable power to pass legislation within their county as a municipality would.
Georgia is bordered on the south by Florida, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina, on the west by Alabama, and on the north by Tennessee and North Carolina.

 Gold Mining History of Tallapoosa County, Alabama
Gold mining operations began soon after Tallapoosa County was created in 1832.The first gold was extracted by a method which the miners called "branch mining".
The gold mines and associated mill operations were usually crude, milling machinery was generally inefficient, and underground mining was done by hand.
Tuomey, the first state geologist, visited the mine in 1845 and reported a prosperous condition that yielded about $96.00 a ton of ore. He reported that the principal vein was about two feet thick on the surface, but thinner and richer at twelve feet.

History of Mining in Bartow County, Georgia, U.S.A. Comments by Frank Dodd Smith and presented by Tony Smith.
He states that the quarry was mined in the 1950s by the Georgia Marble Company, but he has been unable to obtain any records on the quarry from the company.
He states “The rock is calcareous mudstone...or fl marble with white calcite veins.” The total size today is approximately 100 feet by 100 feet, but there is a lot of rubble filling the quarry so it is not possible at present to determine the depth.
