Grunge music (sometimes also referred to as the Seattle Sound) is a genre of alternative rock inspired by hardcore punk, heavy metal, and indie rock.
Grunge bands avoided the complex, high budget presentations that bands from other musical genres such as heavy metal were known for; complex light arrays, pyrotechnics, and other technological visual effects unrelated to playing the music were not part of the concerts.
Clothing commonly worn by grunge fans in the Northwest in its early years was a blend of the punk aesthetic with the typical outdoorsy clothing (most notably flannel shirts) of the region.

Switchfoot's first two albums are great, but this one moves a step farther toward a perfect blend of rock sensibility, moving and thoughtful lyrics, occasional wit, and stirring creativity.
The first 4 songs of this album is the reason I gave the album 4 stars in rating cause in my opinion the 4 songs are some of the best that Switchfoot have created.
This is a less spiritual feel to the album than the first 2 Switchfoot album but there is a feeling of messages of hope for youth and those who are facing problems that seem to big.

With the halcyon days of the early/mid-Nineties now just a memory, and the bigger names in British electronic music locked into a pattern of artistic and commercial decline, an injection of energy from this unexpected quarter is timely.
Of his hip hop flavoured dancehall, he said, 'this music is here to kick up the bass and burn the place'; his other achievements included introducing 'dutty' to non-Jamaican English and getting the most unlikely suspects on the dancefloor to shake their arses.

Some of these songs sound better on the band's live albums, and even "In Utero" was just as good as "Nevermind" (despite what some say), and even those two albums put together could not equal "Unplugged In New York"; but this still stands as a landmark for not only rock, but music in general.
What made this album so great was that the music was punk, but also had a pop-sensibility with infectious hooks and killer riffs.

The Dambuilders hardened their sound, adding chugging Slade guitars and, more incredibly, bringing the perhaps-too-John-Cale-inspired violin squeals of gimmick member Joan Wasser to the front of the mix (I wouldn't take that cheap a shot at a failure: Joan is doing fine these days, playing for Sheryl Crow's band).
