Monkeys   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Monkeys range in size from the Pygmy Marmoset, at 10 cm (4 inch) long (plus tail) and 120 g (4 oz) in weight to the male Mandrill, almost 1 metre (3 ft) long and weighing 35 kg (75 lb).
To understand the monkeys, therefore, it is necessary to study the characteristics of the different groups individually.
The Monkey is the ninth in the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar.

YourArt.com >> Encyclopedia >> baboon   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
In modern scientific use, only members of the genus Papio are called baboons, but previously the closely related Gelada (genus Theropithecus) and two species of Mandrill and Drill (genus Mandrillus) were grouped in the same genus, and these monkeys are still often referred to as baboons in everyday speech.
All baboons have long dog-like muzzles (cynocephalus = dog-head), close-set eyes, heavy powerful jaws, thick fur except on their muzzle, a short tail and rough spots on their protruding hindquarters, called ischial callosities.
These callouses are nerveless, hairless pads of skin which provide for the sitting comfort of the baboon (and other Old World monkeys).

LiveScience.com - Performing Monkeys Could Spread Primate Viruses to Humans
Scientists have long known that monkeys and other primates can be sources of new viruses that morph into types that can kill people.
Performing monkeys in Jakarta, Indonesia carry several so-called retroviruses that are capable of infecting people but which might not show effects for years, it was announced today by researchers.
The monkeys were seen climbing on people and engaging in other close contact that could lead to a bite or scratch and then an infection of monkey fluid, the scientists said.

A seemingly logical first step would be to study the effects of GLU on sub-human primates380; and, as already noted, hypothalamic lesions were demonstrated in monkeys as early as 1969.(1) A seemingly logical second step would be to study what might be considered "normal" ingestion of GLU as opposed to some kind of forced feeding.
The monkeys were infant macaques with age ranging between 30 minutes and 14 days.
This time, both headache and chest pain were added to the symptom list, and a point was made of the fact that there is considerable variability in threshold dose among individuals.

evolgen: Humans, Apes, Monkeys, and Monophyletic Taxa
And as for monkeys being paraphyletic, not necessarily.
The term 'monkey' only becomes paraphyletic if we imply that platyrrhine and catarrhine monkeys should be grouped to the exclusion of fossil anthropoid taxa.
If someone sez "monkeys" it's understood that she means "primates other than apes and lemurs" or something like that, "Fishes" means "non-tetrapod vertebrates." These are paraphyletic.

 Choose Your Own Adventure
First of all, it is based on a true story; unless you count historical gamebooks, this sort of thing is unusual in the genre.
Of course, the problem with most of the historical adventures in this series is that one can't help comparing them to the books in the better-written and more heavily researched Time Machine series, a comparison which makes them seem rather trivial and shallow.
This is no exception, though if you ignore its inferiority to the Time Machine books and look at it only within the context of this series, it's not too bad, featuring a fast pace, some meaningful choices, and a twist ending or two.

The Panda's Thumb: Why are there still Monkeys?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Darwin claims that because we are similar to monkeys in some ways, then we must have evolved from them.
“Monkey” is simply being used as an aphorism for the hominid ancestor men and apes have in common.
“Monkey” in this context is being used as a term of ridicule by conjuring up the absurd and deliberately misleading image in people’s minds that evolutionists claim that their “granddaddy was a monkey”.
