An illustrator is a graphic artist who specializes in enhancing written text by providing a visual representation that corresponds to the content of the associated text.
The illustration may be intended to clarify complicated concepts or objects that are difficult to describe textually, or the illustration may be intended for entertainment, as in greeting cards, or cover art or interior art for books and magazines, or for advertisement, as on posters.
These illustrations are used by museums to spark the interest of little children everywhere.

beautiful illustrations as one would expect and want, and good background coverage of the greats of children's illustrators, but i'd like a more comprehensive list of illustrators, there are only the most well-known, arthur rackham, edmund dulac, edward lear, beatrix potter, etc.
As an illustrator, I find it fascinating to learn a little about what made these legends tick - their educations, techniques, working style, etc. As a reader of children's literature, my mind is blown by these artists bodies of work and their ability feed my imagination.
And we get to see plenty of illustrations which remind us of the contribution each of these artists made to children's literature.

 Interesting WWW Sites of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators
Kris Waldherr's website showcases her illustrations effectively, brings people back with changing content, and has helped her cross over into new markets.
My criteria: Sites I list here generally conform to what I consider to be good "web design." I have not had time to write an essay on just what I think that is; fortunately, Aaron Shepard has already done that.
Such sites are useful but I am focusing on the most interesting examples of work done by authors and illustrators themselves (or designers they have worked with directly).
