The site includes a survey to be completed prior to the course, glossaries, quizzes, a user satisfaction form at the end of the course, and interesting examples of student Web projects on topics ranging from beekeeping to U.S. foreign policy.

Those are two conclusions from a new study in the December issue of Pediatrics that also found that teens who look for eating disorder information on the Internet are more likely to be hospitalized for their condition than teens who don't turn to the Web.
These sites may be run as community forums or chat sites, where teens with eating disorders can exchange ideas and information to reinforce their harmful activities.
The bad news was that 41 percent had visited a pro-eating disorder Web site, while 36 percent had visited a pro-recovery Web site.

Gilson Terriberry, owner of list brokerage firm Direct Contact Marketing Group and the recently launched listsnow.com Web site, is one of the pioneers betting the Internet will grow the list business as it has boosted the sales of retailers online.
While some data providers like I Rent America, Richardson, TX, operate their own list sites, the more common approach is to market data through licensed resellers like ListMerchant, which offers business data from Dun and Bradstreet and consumer data from Polk and the soon-to-be-launched MyProspects.com, Palo Alto, CA.

 Chat rooms could face expulsion | CNET News.com
By a 410-15 vote on Thursday, politicians approved a bill that would effectively require that "chat rooms" and "social networking sites" be rendered inaccessible to minors, an age group that includes some of the Internet's most ardent users.
Even though politicians apparently meant to restrict access to MySpace, the definition of off-limits Web sites is so broad the bill would probably sweep in thousands of commercial Web sites that allow people to post profiles, include personal information and allow "communication among users." Details will be left up to the Federal Communications Commission.
The list could include Slashdot, which permits public profiles; Amazon, which allows author profiles and personal lists; and blogs like RedState.com that show public profiles.

Thousands of Web sites with message boards or chat rooms would be encouraged to check their lists of registered users against a federal list of sex offenders, according to forthcoming legislation in the U.S. Congress.
The proposal says that such Web sites may--but are not required to--send a formal statement to the U.S. Department of Justice to request a list of sex offenders' e-mail addresses and screen names used for instant messaging.
Social-networking sites are defined as any commercial Web site that permits people to create their own Web pages and offers a "mechanism for communication with other users," which would include sites like Slashdot.org, Amazon.com, CNET's Gamespot.com and CNET Reviews.
