Impressionist music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Impressionist movement in music is a movement in music loosely set between the late nineteenth century, up to the middle of the twentieth century.
Technically, the impressionists invented or began using a great number of new compositional techniques: bitonality, planing (the use of voices moving in parallel motion; Debussy's prelude La cathédrale engloutie provides an example), extended tertian harmonies, and intentionally ambiguous musical forms.
Impressionist composers also made extensive use of whole tone scales to create a dreamy, "hazy" effect in their works, much like the blurred paintings of Renoir and Monet.

 Franz Liszt
He was taught the piano by his father and then Czerny (Vienna, 1822-3), establishing himself as a remarkable concert artist by the age of 12.
In Paris he studied theory and composition with Reicha and Paer; he wrote an opera and bravura piano pieces and undertook tours in France, Switzerland and England before ill-health and religious doubt made him reassess his career.
In harmony he ventured well beyond the use of augmented and diminished chords and the whole-tone scale; the late piano and choral works especially contain tonal dashes arising from independent contrapuntal strands, chords built from 4ths or 5ths, and a strikingly advanced chromaticism.

The small group of Impressionists being short of a place to show their works exhibited at the photographic studio of Nadar and the exhibition proved a success.
The majority of the Impressionists were involved with painting nature and landscapes, but Renoir chose to include figures and people in his pictures and his style began to progress and develop as he began to include children as the main subject with a garden or landscape background.

Classical to Romantic period music: composers biography
Vivaldi, Liszt, Debussy, and Strauss were composers who would lead the way to a more individualistic assertion of imaginative music that would break the molds of composers before them and usher in an intensely personal and sensitive form of musical expression.
Claude Debussy, born in 1862, was the most contemporary of the four composers, his life spanning the turn of the century.
Trading the romanticism of the day for his own individual impressionistic style, Debussy's orchestral suite Printemps was openly dubbed vague impressionism by a musical community not quite ready for change.

The fastest performance on record of this fiendishly difficult piece is Simon Barere's legendary 1937 recording, in which he finished it in 4 minutes and 17 seconds (without the repeat).
It's the greatest performance of the piece, at least much better than Horowitz’s, with breathtaking virtuosity and the coda is faster than in his DG recording.

This one almost doesn't belong on this list, because the two sides are so completely distinct that even cramming them together on a CD can hardly blur the contrast.

A single 68.5-minute piece, landscape in obscurity bears an appropriate enough title; as with most of Obmana's works, there seems to be a very organic flow, and this landscape is indeed obscured by misty musical cloudbanks.

Cyanide gas, a metabolic poison, would indeed produce blue lips, but they are far from being a specific indicator of its use.
