Inequality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If the sense of the inequality is the same for all values of the variables for which its members are defined, then the inequality is called an "absolute" or "unconditonal" inequality.
If the sense of an inequality holds only for certain values of the variables involved, but is reversed or destroyed for other values of the variables, it is called a conditional inequality.
The sense of an inequality is not changed if both sides are increased or decreased by the same number, or if both sides are multiplied or divided by a positive number; the sense of an inequality is reversed if both members are multiplied or divided by a negative number.

A list is bounded by square brackets and contains a comma-separated list of member terms, for example [a,b,c].
For example, member(X,Y) is true whenever X is a member of the list Y, and intersection(X,Y,Z) can be used to compute the intersection of X and Y (if you specify) them, which will be returned as the binding to Z (if you give it as a variable in a query).

HealthScout--Inequalities in Kidney Transplant Lists   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Researchers say 38 percent of patients were placed on the waiting list for a kidney transplant and 24 percent underwent a transplant during the study.
Results show patients were less likely to be placed on a waiting list if they were female, older, had diabetes, were socially deprived, or were treated in a hospital with no transplant unit.
Researchers write, "Patients had a better chance of being placed on the waiting list when they started dialysis in a renal unit in a hospital with a transplant unit." They also found patients who lived the furthest from the transplant center were listed more quickly.

 Inequalities
A "solution'' of an inequality is a number which when substituted for the variable makes the inequality a true statement.
As in the case of solving equations, there are certain manipulations of the inequality which do not change the solutions.
The basic strategy for inequalities and equations is the same: isolate x on one side, and put the "other stuff" on the other side.

 Health and health inequality
Increasing overall levels of health and reducing inequalities in health are key goals of health systems.
In the WHO framework, population health is measured according to the estimate of Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE) which combines age-specific mortality with estimates of age-specific prevalence of ill-health, weighted by severity.
The amount of inequality around that average level should also be reported.

This means a list of alternatives, each alternative being implemented as a table: for each alternative, when _cond is evaluated to TRUE, _value yields the expected expression, a function of the parameters.
Here _periodic takes 2 parameters: a list l and a parameter p; the result is the k-th element of the list (counting up from 0), where k=p (modulo length of list).
Note that since MuPAD count the list elements from 1, we have to add 1 to this k to find the correct position, as done by the function _periodic provided in test_count.mupad.

A list of inequalities derived from Schubert calculus has recently been found, which were shown by Klyachko and Helmke-Rosenthal to be necessary, and by Klyachko to be asymptotically sufficient.
With this we show that the inequalities are sufficient even for small weights (not just asymptotically) -- this latter one was known as the "saturation conjecture".
In particular this implies Horn's conjecture from 1962 on the spectrum of the sum of two Hermitian matrices.

Here it is important to recognize that the nature of the conflict gets configured differently as we move from the United States and Europe to social landscapes marked by sharp inequalities in Asia, Latin America and Africa.

This is a survey of the theory of weighted integral inequalities of Hardy type, including modifications concerning Hardy-Steklov operators, and some basic results about Hardy type inequalities and their limit (Carleman-Knopp type) inequalities.
It also describes some new fields such as higher order and fractional order Hardy type inequalities and integral inequalities on the cone of monotone function together with some applications and open problems.

Amongst its most important assets are a number of population-based databases and comprehensive administrative data sets, as well as data from many disease-specific or subject-specific studies.
In particular, the population-based databases would be readily adaptable to social inequalities research as they provide representative samples of the population and include many socio-economic variables.  Similarly, administrative data sets with existing outcome data held within the School provide a rich resource for research in this area.
Many of the other existing projects could also lend themselves to social inequalities research on closer scrutiny by interested researchers.
