From 1908 to 1985 South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands were dependencies of the colony.

 History of the CI
The Channel Islands are steeped in history and discoveries in the 20th century have shown evidence of mankind dating back to 4000 BC (New Stone Age) when tribes, possibly from Spain moved here.
The recent history of the islands can therefore be traced back quite clearly to Norman times and Islanders proudly state that their ancestors were part of the forces of William the Conqueror which defeated England in 1066.
In fact since around 933, when Rollo's son William Longsword added the islands to the dukedom of Normandy, the inhabitants of these islands have been answerable only to the Duke of Normandy and his successors, the British sovereign.

To begin with, the term "British Isles" is the commonly used and accepted term which refers to the group of islands off the northwest coast of Europe which includes the islands of Great Britain and Ireland and the many smaller adjacent islands.
Why a category of British Isles, lets go for broke and change the category to "Islands of the North Atlantic" or even "Atlandtic Islands", I am happy to do the work and I think it would be as useful, if not more useful than the current category.

I found my Blampied ancestors for example on a 1788 list of parishioners of St Lawrence which was published by in the Journals of the Channel Islands FHS in 1981 (divided according to each "Vingtaine" of the parish).
This century, however, a major development has changed that part of the island - the farm is located at the upper end of "Waterworks Valley" to the west of the Handois Reservoir, which used to be a China clay quarry (old photograph in "Jersey Through the Lens" by Mayne and Stevens).
His great grandson, also called Clement, was appointed Lieutenant Governor and Bailly of the island by Henry VII in return for sheltering and assisting him, as Earl of Richmond, after the Earl's first and unsuccessful attempt to take the throne of England from Richard II before the Battle of Bosworth.

CHESTER- Not much left (now county offices); excellent town walls; this is a RED stone place, which for some reason is impressive; the tower on the NW side of the town walls, well-preserved, is where Charles I observed his army being devastated in one of the critical battles of the Civil War.
Have never been inside it because of odd access hours -- you can get stranded on the island when the tide is in, and the tide does not always suit with National Trust hours of opening, then when it all works out, there are a horde of tourists trying to cram into this tiny place.
TATTERSHALL (Lincs)- One of the most incredible masterpieces of late medieval brickwork in England; there's the massive brick keep, but not much else anymore; the keep is still roofed; it looks like an institution--a school or a hospital or an insane asylum--you can admire it, but it ain't pretty.
