This is a list of islands of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is an island nation, but around it there are number of small islets.
Historic importance of these is manifested by their inhabitation exclusively by the Tamil minority, the current occupation of most of them by the Sri Lankan Navy due to the Black July induced civil war.

The Ramsar Secretariat is pleased to announce that the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has designated the Maduganga Mangrove Estuary for the Ramsar List as its third Wetland of International Importance, effective 11 December 2003.

This project includes study of the hydrology of the lagoon, educational and awareness campaigns, and development of tourism with azoning plan and establishment of a visitor centre, which all will be crowned with the Special Area Management Plan at the end of project in 2006.
