In the lead-up to February 15, the StWC was organising the march from a small office donated by the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education.
The protests were largely peacefully though a small group of protesters were reported to have broken off from the main rally and caused damage to property in the posh Union Square district as well as throwing stones at police officers, this resulted in 40 arrests.
Amongst the protesters in Tokyo was a group of survivors of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Any decision which begins with a recital of the events of September 11, and transitions to the issues of the case with "in the wake of this atrocity,..." isn't going to keep its focus.
Complaints that the war is not progressing as it should may not be valid or realistic, but they are the main thrust of the new critical attitude of at least some reporters.

Counting protesters double-counts the left, and that is not an accurate proxy of the democratic process.
Perhaps there is a pressing case for war, one which outweighs the expected military and civilian casualties, the expected increase in anti-american attitudes and terrorism and the continuing economic disruption.
Better you should take your irritation out on syzygy, who calls protest marches "the sheeplike nature of the masses" but seems to think sitting at home rejoicing in cluelessness and letting a war proceed by default is a principled stand.

In the current campaign against a war with Iraq, large rallies are a valuable publicity tool for antiwar groups whose attempts to woo undecided Americans are frequently drowned out by a government that argues that it may be necessary to go to war.
