Scotland was historically represented in the UK government by the Secretary of State for Scotland.

The Bank of Scotland was established by an Act of the Parliament of Scotland on 17 July 1695, the Act for erecting a Bank in Scotland, opening for business in February 1696.
Where the Bank of England was established specifically to finance defence spending by the English government, the Bank of Scotland was established by the Scottish government to support Scottish business, and was prohibited from lending to the government without parliamentary approval [1].
The Bank of Scotland was the first bank in Europe to successfully issue paper currency redeemable for cash on demand (which was an extremely useful facility given the poor state of the Scottish coinage at the end of the seventeenth century).

Scotland's highest mountains are known as Munros, named after Sir Hugh T. Munro who in 1891 surveyed all the country's mountains above 3000 feet (914.4 metres) and produced his Tables which catalogued 236 peaks that he deemed to be individual mountains.
The Corbetts is the collective name given to the 221 distinct mountains in Scotland which are between 2500 (762 m) feet and 2999 (914 m) feet, and which have a re-ascent of 500 feet on all sides.
The Grahams are those mountains in Scotland with heights between 2000 m (610 m) and 2499 m (761 m).

In Scotland, the word "loch" is used to describe any large, enclosed expanse of water (such as Loch Katrine, illustrated above), including areas coming in from the sea (equivalent to the Norwegian "fjiords").
Because of its depth, Loch Ness is the largest loch by volume of water.
This is the longest canal in Scotland and connects Corpach (near Fort William) to Clachnacarry (near Inverness), a distance of 60 miles (96.5km).

It is almost a travel log -- but is not -- in that it looks at sections of Scotland area by area with appropriate landscape photography as well as pictures of special features (buildings, monuments, water falls, ruins, and even trees).
My wife was very frustrated reading the book because she could not figure out where some of the places were, and our maps did not list the locations being described.
This is an exceptionally well-researched history and guide to the lakes and glens of Scotland.
