 mangacast: A List Your Manga Should not Be On
Manga magazines in Japan are like different TV channels - ShoComi, Ribbon and Nakayhoshi are the girls channels.
Looking at that list one could say there is enough manga on that list to make a real strong catalog for a pub.
Lists like these are really depressing for bibliophiles like me, though, with all the books I already get, by pocket book (and husband) don't mind.

 What Shôjo Manga Are and Are Not
This is probably because, after they have plumbed the depths of style and content ad nauseam, I simply tell them that shôjo manga are manga published in shôjo magazines (as defined by their publishers), and shônen manga are manga published in shônen manga magazines (likewise defined by publishers).
This is probably because the first successful manga targeting adult women were labeled as "ladies' comics," and these comics quickly acquired a stigma that fans of shôjo manga did not want to be associated with.
Well, although I read manga in Japanese, I've tried to compile a list a manga that have been translated into English and which are classified as "shôjo," either rightly or wrongly.

Ultimate Manga Guide is a very extensive manga database that's sprang out of the old Usenet Manga Guide; I recommended it, and use it extensively myself (though it's gotten as bad about updating as this page...).
Mangakai, the Swedish manga organization, isn't really all that well-organized, but at least they occasionaly have showings, and the page is well done.
