Moon K-12 Experiments & Background Information
The gravitational attraction that the Moon exerts on Earth is the cause of tides in the sea.
The tidal bulges on Earth, caused by the Moon's gravity, are carried ahead of the apparent position of the Moon by the Earth's rotation, in part because of the friction of the water as it slides over the ocean bottom and into or out of bays and estuaries.
The points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic are called the "lunar nodes": the North (or ascending) node is where the Moon crosses to the North of the ecliptic; the South (or descending) node where it crosses to the South.

The moon rotates on its axis once in about the same period of time that elapses for its sidereal period of revolution, accounting for the fact that virtually the same portion of the moon is always turned toward the earth.
The moon’s magnetic field is not as strong or widespread as that of the earth.
Hence the moon is still being bombarded by meteoroids, although not as often as in the past, and this may be a problem for engineers who design permanent bases for the lunar surface.

Analysis of craters and Moon rocks show that there was a late heavy bombardment by asteroids around the period 4000 to 3800 million years ago.
The slight deviation of the shadow from the actual location of the Moon (denoted by the cross) is doubly fascinating; and is the result of Earth's magnetic field twisting the shadow due to the fact that cosmic rays are charged particles.

The dark regions are the lunar mare, whereas the lighter regions are the highlands.
However, in a reference frame rotating with the Moon, the centrifugal acceleration is exactly equal and opposite to the gravitational acceleration of the Earth.
Based on data obtained from the Lunar Prospector mission, it appears that a large proportion of the Moon's inventory of heat producing elements (in the form of KREEP) is located within the regions of Oceanus Procellarum and the Imbrium basin, a unique geochemical province now referred to as the Procellarum KREEP Terrane.
