The July 20 Plot was a failed coup d'état and attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
The leader of the plot was Oberst (Colonel) Claus von Stauffenberg.
The plot ringleaders, Oberst Claus von Stauffenberg, General Friedrich Olbricht, Oberst Albrecht Mertz von Quirnheim and Leutnant Werner von Haeften were arrested after a brief skirmish late that evening and shot by firing squad in the courtyard of the Bendlerblock (War Ministry).

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 at Braunau am Inn, a small town 90 km (55 miles) west of Linz in the province of Upper Austria not far from the German border in what was then Austria-Hungary.
In July 1919, Hitler, because of his intelligence and oratory skills, was appointed a V-Mann (Verbindungsmann is the German term for a police spy) of an "Enlightenment Commando" by the Reichswehr, for the purpose of influencing other soldiers towards similar ideas and was assigned to infiltrate a small nationalist party, the German Workers' Party.

The plot rings every possible change on a single detective theme (the avenger from the past) as if it were a Jack Ritchie short story swelled to giant size.
There is something "minimalist" about the plot of each, as if EQ were trying to find the smallest possible plot, a situation so narrow in its maneuvering room that it barely allows for an explanation.
