The United States House of Representatives is, along with the United States Senate, one of the two houses of the Congress of the United States.
The chamber of the United States House of Representatives is located in the south wing of the Capitol building, in Washington, D.C. This photograph shows a rare glimpse of the four vote tallying boards (the flish squares across the top), which display each member's name and vote as votes are in progress.
Members' desks are arranged in the chamber in a semicircular pattern; the desks are divided by a wide central aisle.

Four United States vessels demonstrated and landed various parties (one of 200 marines and sailors) to discourage piracy and the slave trade along the Ivory coast, and to punish attacks by the natives on American seamen and shipping.
Congress authorized a naval squadron to seek redress for an attack on a naval vessel in the Parana River during 1855.

The first Congress under the current Constitution started its term in Federal Hall in New York City on March 4, 1789 and their first action was to declare that the new Constitution of the United States was in effect.
The powers originally delegated to the Congress by the original version of the Constitution were supplemented by the post-Civil War amendmentss to the Constitution (Amendments 13, 14, and 15, each of which authorizes the Congress to enforce its provisions by appropriate legislation), and by the 16th Amendment, which authorizes an income tax.
Elections for members of both houses of Congress are invariably held in November of every even numbered year, on that month's first Tuesday following its first Monday (that is to say, on the Tuesday that falls between the second and eighth days, inclusive), a day known as Election Day.
