 German Military Aircraft Designations (1933-1945)
In official RLM paperwork, aircraft model numbers were mostly prefixed by the number 8 and a dash (similarly, piston engines used designations with a "9-" prefix, while jet engines were prefixed with "109-").
Sometimes the manufacturer and/or the RLM assigned a name for commercial or propaganda purposes (the He 162 "Volksjäger" being the classical example for the latter), but these names rarely caught on, and the aircraft were usually referred to by their RLM number.
The lists in sources [2] and [3] contain numerous duplicate numbers, most of which are not found in source [1].
